Medical translator, veteran computer programmer & author of several books on the subject.
I love science, language, snakes, nutrition.
Lost 65+ kg (143+ pounds) of weight & keeping them off. Not promoting any specific diet but very much in favour of APF.
Great article. As someone who is interested in weight loss/maintenance, I do have doubts regarding this👇. While my experience with buckwheat is limited, I can't help but wonder how this is possible. It is inconsistent with my experience. I love all grain(like seed)s, but see them as less desirable

Here is something to contemplate for all those smart MAHA people who know so much better than scientists that vaccines cause autism. Stay away from organic foods. They cause autism. Look! Forget vaccines, they are nothing!

Une fois n'est pas coutume: it had disappeared from the shelves of Kai Wei in Toronto for far too long, in my opinion. My number one favourite junk "food": hard durian candy. Not only is it deliciously unhealthful, it is also vegan. A win on all fronts!

Here is something I remember from my younger years: Treets. I loved them. And then, they were transformed into m&m's. I never buy these. There was something irresistible in Treets and revolting in m&m's. It *could* be that the colours look inappropriate to me, but I don't know.

Here is something that really pains me. Dry-roasted chickpeas are a wonderful food and snack, but this is what happens when the label designers or their employers don't care about providing accurate information to their customers:
fibre = 0? What chickpea species would that be?

I am less than impressed with ChatGPT's accuracy, but I have to give it good marks in the humour department. It seems to be able to cater to my own sense of humour:

Here is another magnificent result from Google's AI. 35 g contains approximately 4 g of fibre and 100 g contains approximately 1.5 g of fibre. How fantastic. I admit that my limited brain is unable to grasp such an exquisite calculation.
Artificial idiocy at its finest!

I had forgotten about it. You are probably referring to this👇. It's so revolting that I stopped watching.

It seems that @vanranstmarc.bsky.social has blocked me on Twitter. I do not know why, because I thought I agreed with most of his positions, but it is his right. So, I will no longer risk bothering him and will unfollow him here as well.

When time is short, this is a lifesaver: sprouts/microgreens taken from a drawer next to my desk with TVP, psyllium-spice mix and water. The salt mill does not contain salt but citric acid.

Here👇is the little blurb about "Food Intelligence", the remarkably enjoyable and intelligent book on food written by @kevinh-phd.bsky.social and @juliabelluz.bsky.social I wrote on Google. I think it deserves many more and better reviews.

It's a great book. I finished listening to it and it was a pleasure. Wholly recommended to anyone interested in food and nutrition. It is so refreshing to have a book on food that is both based on reality and not filled with useless recipes. The narrator, Barrie Kreinik, also did a lovely job.

Since Julia is talking about Paris, I can't help but remember one of the movies I saw when I was 14/15 years old and that is still one of my favourites: "L'aile ou la cuisse" with Louis de Funès and Coluche, where they talk about the US as "le pays de la malbouffe" (the country of bad food):

Here is my current number one favourite meal. I have to be careful with it, because it is prone to massive overeating:
Sprouts/microgreens, crushed tomatoes and psyllium with nattou. Insanely delicious.

attention to whether or not they contain salt. Right now, the weekly average looks like this:
That rather different look is the result of overeating nattou (calories), berries and durian (calories). These are trigger foods for me.

People sometimes wonder why I am not impressed by the abilities of current programmers and associated "ITers". Here is but one minor example. As far as I know, time travel is not available yet.

I have never understood that, given that sodium and potassium are part of the same "mechanism" (from memory, physiological term may have changed by now). Here👇is my own average daily intake for the past 7 days (20250831-20250906).

Interesting. I just looked. If Cronometer is correct, I get an average daily intake of about 2x the RDA, with no supplementation. How do people manage to get so little?
It is even worse for manganese. I am struggling to get intake down.

That is great, I am just not convinced that the publisher should have put this👇 on the cover. I really hope that the discount will help to overcome the aversion it is likely to cause.

I just discovered that @kevinh-phd.bsky.social 's new book is available for preorder on Google play and that there is/will be an audio version. Given that my job consists of sitting, I ordered the audiobook. I can listen to it while walking to the grocery store, killing three birds with 1 stone.

In other words, you haven't bothered even looking at it. Here is one graph from that article for people who are interested in nutrition. That doesn't seem to be you, but here it is:

As an old bachelor with an erratic schedule, I love beans to death: recipes are not needed, equipment is minimal, dishwashing almost non-existent, time investment is measured in minutes... and yet, they are delicious anyway.

Here is my latest attempt at telling ChatGPT to be less of a yes-man. Trump may like that, but I don't. I am not convinced that I am getting through.

Chat GPT is as helpful as ever. What repsonse do you prefer?
