R.I.P. Dan McGrath, who gets writing credits on most of The Simpsons’ golden years, including for what I think is the best episode of the entire series, “The Devil and Homer Simpson”. I don’t think Dave Silverman would have went as nuts with this if it didn’t all start with that sharp script.

Lantz's whole output is defined by his stature as a silent cartoonist, meaning the gag (ANY gag) stood before all, and there's two long bookends of mostly bland (but watchable) cartoons, but the middle sweet spot (1943-55) had many GEMS by Culhane, Lundy, Patterson, and Avery.

I posted this on the shithole site, but I'm really happy MeTV is running the Walter Lantz color cartoons starting in September. This is the first time Woody has been on regular U.S. TV since 1997!
