I guess I read those stories because I saw a bit of myself in them and hoped I'd end up like they did...stronger...braver...accomplished and wise.

Sometimes they were stories about girls who underwent terrible trauma and emerged as triumphant, glorious , powerful avenger goddesses!

Sometimes they were about weird misunderstood girls who overcame adversity and escaped from the places they lived and found a niche where they were recognized for the unique, talented, creative people they were.

A lot of the time they were "survival stories," i.e. girl ends up on a deserted island and finds food and water, lives off the land.
