I got to run The Great Thaw by @margomods.bsky.social, one of, if not the first 3rd Party Crowdfunders for #DrawSteel!

It was a trial game for my players, after running the start of the Delian Tomb for others. I wanted to try another adventure to improve my Directing. Here are my thoughts.

Finished a @hellomcdm.bsky.social Draw Steel Dwarf, for my Brew Brethren painting. Nice to have a go at trying the gem ‘hair’ (?) and stone bodies of these unique people.

I also like how pleasantly round he is sat on his stool. Sipping his little pot of ale.

Using nothing but an old axe head, and two wooden wedges I cut from a Cherry Tree, I’ve split this trunk. Now I need to figure out what to do with it.
A cut trunk stood on its end, with a split axe resting against it. An old axe head is sunk deep into the upright end of the trunk. A trunk on its side, the crack down its length has been widened with two wooden wedges. Further splitting the trunk with an old axe head and another wedge once more. A ‘bodger’ is lain on the ground next to it. A split trunk, with the tools to split it lain on it. A bodger, two cherry wood wedges, an axe head, and a splitting axe.

Work continues on my #DrawSteel project.

Felt inspired to draw a big piece of to go with the detail on the Brew Brothers & Sisters of Saint Merrilyn the Hearthmaid. They should make a great Order for NPCs, Factions, and the like.

The battle was suitable dynamic after the spooky build up.

With @hellomcdm.bsky.social's Minion Rules, and forgetting darkvision all together, I was able to bring a real sense of scale and horror to the fight.

They broke off to investigate the causes of the fire, and to speak to the Granger Cooperative, run by one of the sisters of the last generation of heroes.

Investigation and Roleplay were the names of the game this evening. It was a great one for building the story and arc of this campaign.
