In the ending, Miku admits that behind her noble ecoterrorist screed, she just wanted to have revenge against the world.

This is a subtle reference to dialogue from Barret Wallace at the end of Disk 2 of Final Fantasy 7 - a much better RPG that the Shrink High developers were jealous of.

Among multiple references, one that people MAY have missed: the mysterious bonus boss Madoka is the original character of early size artist Somari.

She's a bit hard to look up nowadays because there's a more popular character named Madoka and a more popular game named Somari.

6. Kyon grows Yuki and Mikuru; while Haruhi yells at him. His canonical one true love, Koizumi, has totally disappeared.

7. Since the Expanded Mod re-added Koizumi as playable, this CG wouldn't have given him much conclusion. It'd need an extensive redraw since he's not into Yuki or Mikuru.

4. You NEED to pause and enter the menu to grow Narue in the ending, so it was originally inaccessible.

5. There's Japanese placeholder text in the CG's background about a 40-year-old with no kids getting tired of his 9-to-5 job and convincing his wife to travel to the United Arab Emirates
November 2, 2025 at 4:28 PM
Something that was NEVER fixed, though, is that the mustached guy to the left has backwards dialogue.

He'll simply thank you for the hard work if Narue grew giant... and he'll mention you had a giantess "of your own" if Narue DIDN'T grow giant.

He rejects your giantess and hallucinates his own.

Due to a glitch in the original unpatched English translation, Chijinda's sprite will appear gigantic in the ending if you choose to grow Narue to giant size, and block most of the onscreen action.

This was fixed in a patch not long after. Boo. Let the man be huge.

To reach the final tower area, the Advanced Sciences Society uses a ladder.

Do not try and convince me it's a stepladder. It won't work on me.

Miku's origin in Shrink High is that she's a time traveler from a dystopian future trying to prevent an ecological collapse.

While Miku is famously adaptable, this is similar to the original character designer's concept of Hatsune Miku: an android found in a dystopian near future.

The original Waku Waku 7 stages had a system where the lighting changes depending on how many rounds you're in, and Shrink High uses two variants.

If you've wanted to see how it would look like to fight Miku during a total eclipse, here's the art for that.
November 2, 2025 at 4:28 PM
In another example of asset reuse, the final boss' background is stolen from Fernandez (a.k.a. Fernandeath)'s stage from fighting game Waku Waku 7. He's also the final boss, and the player grows huge to fight him.

This stage is decently popular in MUGEN, so it may look familiar to some.

"A shrinking virus? How saaaaaad... To find a cure as fast as possible, I'll be sure to examine the physiological impacts and the microbial action. Now hold still, please, the dissection shouldn't take long~"

Among Kyon's skill books is the unused "The Bewilderment Of Suzumiya Haruhi".

In Japanese, it's described as a strategy guide for the PS2 Haruhi game, and says "you can learn「」"

In English, it says it teaches you "Nagato-san, help!!" - no such skill exists in either version.

The Japanese code, exclusively, has Miku in the list of player characters; but she doesn't have stats, just using Chijinda's. She was either scrapped quickly or it's for a weird code trick.

The English code has these playable characters without stats: Mia, Erika, a pile of books, and a stool.

UNUSED SHRINK HIGH PLAYER CHARACTERS!

There are unused stat blocks and abilities for Haruhi, Yuki, and Mikuru, the 3 ZOZ Brigade girls, in both Japanese and English.

-Haruhi fights with a megaphone and Closed Space
-Yuki recharges SP by reading books
-Mikuru uses time travel to weaken enemies

Mostly just a long one, but the book does delve into long unseparated monologues from time to time

Update: Professor Van Helsing lists off all of Dracula's powers, and casually reveals all vampires are size-shifters.

I'm wondering why this didn't catch on like the whole garlic, cross, river, invitation, stake to the heart, silver bullet, and sleeping in a coffin thing this book canonized.

You've asked this at the perfect time!

I've actually been on the fence as to whether something in fantasy I'm writing should have its tiny girl be:
- A fluttery, innocent and squeamish fairy
- A smug, haughty princess

I'm very strongly leaning arrogant ojou-sama type between them!

Statistics tell me it's a jumpy Harley Quinn cosplayer, lips bright red, smushing societies for "Mistah J", making giggling "honk" noises with each skyscraper smushed under her diamond-ornamented, latex-clad butt

blissfully unaware that Harley's been over Mistah J for years in every continuity
