Happy #FossilFriday! Pictured is a jaw fragment from a mosasaur, a large marine reptile. It was found in 85-million-year-old Cretaceous limestone along the Missouri River bluffs, which formed at the bottom of a shallow inland sea during that time.🏞️

A dinosaur tooth of an indeterminate carcharodontosaurid from the Grès supérieurs Formation in the Savannakhet Province of Laos. Possibly cf. Siamraptor suwati, but the size and morphology seems more derived. #FossilFriday

Majungasaurus is quite unique in being relatively "small" as the apex predator in its habitat. How many Majungasaurus does it take to kill a Rapetosaurus that's not already dying or a juvenile? I don't know. Maybe impossible.

A dinosaur tooth of a Majungasaurus crenatissimus from the Maevarano Formation in the former Mahajanga Province of Madagascar. This species of abelisaurid is one of the most common and abundant fossils in the deposit.

First post on here!
I'm a paleo-illustrator so if you like fossils and extinct species stick around!

First up : Portunatasaurus chasing fish in a wave during the late Cretaceous in what is now Croatia.
It's a potential early relative to the much bigger mosasaurs!

Two maxillae from the
durophagous mosasaur Globidens alabamaensis from the Ozan Formation of North Sulphur River, Texas, USA. www.researchgate.net/publication/... Globidens is amongst the rarest mosasaurs in North America predominantly consisting of isolated teeth and jaw fragments.

A mosasaur tooth of a Tylosaurus cf. proriger from the Ozan Formation in Fannin County, Texas, USA. The easily visible tertiary striations towards the base of the tooth is a common characteristic of tylosaurine mosasaurs. #FossilFriday

As stated already, the "super croc" did not live with Spinosaurus (or Carcharodontosaurus), and this giant crocodylomorph was extinct and fossilized by that time. However, it did live alongside Suchomimus and Eocarcharia, as well as Ouranosaurus.

A crocodylomorph tooth of a Sarcosuchus imperator from the Elrhaz Formation in Gadoufaoua, Niger. Often referred to as the "super croc", this genus was not a true crocodilian; it also did not live with Spinosaurus as commonly portrayed in media.

Kinokuniya is primarily known as a bookstore, but the one in Shinjuku, Japan also has a fossil and mineral store.

Assuming the provenance was labeled correctly, the "Saurornitholestes" is likely an Atrociraptor. Although it's hard to tell without seeing those hooked serrations of the clade.

Happy New Year! ⛩️

Or, I guess it's still 2023 in a lot of places. So Happy New Year's 2024 from the future, or New Years if you travel on that day and go back in time to 2023.

On a side note, this cloud above Shizuoka Sengen Shrine looked kind of like a crab. 🦀
