Would the transfer of shares to pay the wealth tax be a taxable event resulting in recognition of the gains accrued on the transferred shares? (I.e., so the act of paying the wealth tax would also result in triggering capital gains tax too?)

But not quite. In fact, it’s one of the few places on Earth where one can actually see the curvature of the Earth.

Call me crazy but, employing renewable energy sources to conserve a valuable but exhaustible materials resource for future generations… wouldn’t that be the more conservative thing to do?

What happened to the America of Grantland Rice? When did it turn from “it matters not if you won or lost, it’s how you played the game” to venerating “greed is good” and “kick butt” as credos and values?

The US’ much vaunted “checks and balances” are wholly based on a presumption that the legislative, executive and judicial branches, and the free press, would be populated in the majority with people of courage and character. No provision was made for the possibility that presumption could fail.

Why’s this an issue now, when it was a complete non-issue for the first 60 of my 77 years on earth? Maybe 1 in a thousand is transgender and I’m sure that 1’s been comfortably using and continues to use their gender’s restroom without incident or anyone even noticing, let alone raising a fuss.

Forgive me, I thought you were defending the bombing against Kinzinger’s implied criticism thereof.
June 23, 2025 at 2:58 PM
Has it not occurred to you that this US bombing could accelerate their acquiring nukes “for their own protection”, either by their own means or by getting them from their allies, like N. Korea, China or… Russia?

It’s interesting how, once the four of them have you helplessly pinned to the ground, they always find it necessary to beat your head in.

What message was the Army sending to Trump, yesterday? Obviously, the officer corps (the General Staff?) had to be in on this obvious snub. Were they telling him that the US Army can’t be used by him for his own unConstitutional ends? Let’s hope so.

If we’re talking about putting Man on the Moon, NASA recruited dozens of Canadian engineers specifically to work on the Apollo Space program, including the guy who headed up NASA’s Space Task Group, the lunar lander chief engineer, the guy who developed the Apollo 11 heat shield, etc., etc.

Well you can start by stop using euphemisms like “tone deaf”. She’s not “tone deaf”. She’s uncaring, negligent and doesn’t give a sh*t about anyone other than herself.

Ah, but how to distinguish the disinterested act from the corrupt? The inability for anyone to conclusively draw that distinction is why politicians and judges must avoid both the impropriety itself and any appearance of impropriety, too. And why there’s an emoluments clause in the Constitution.

Is it illegal in Chicago to be both a Cubs fan and a White Sox fan?

Sadly, it’s not coming “in” to the US. Whatever the actual amount is, it’s being paid by American consumers to the US treasury. Not a dime is coming from outside the US.

Someone (i.e., an importer) has to take it to Court and then the Trump administration has to agree to follow the Courts’ decision when, 6 to 10 years from now and after all his rights to appeal are exhausted, he ultimately loses…

What does this mean in practice — that, if he were to become PM, he wouldn’t be allowed to see classified material, or that he’d be allowed to see classified material without having been cleared to see it? And what is he currently permitted to see as Leader of the Opposition, btw?

Trump will claim every vote for the Conservatives is a vote for the US “annexing” Canada. Canada needs all the symbolic rejection of those ambitions it can muster and, thus, like him or not, PP & the CPC must “take one for the Gipper” and get clobbered this time.

As the Canadian party most closely identified with Trump, Trump will claim every vote for the CPC is a vote for the US “annexing” Canada. Thus, Canada needs all the symbolic rejection of those ambitions that it can muster and, like him or not, PP must “take one for the Gipper” this time.

The Board (which he obviously owns, too) should have fired him (and the Cybertruck) long before now, for the sake of the brand. Now it’s too late and the brand’s likely tainted forever.

He's not an agent. "Agent" suggests the possibility of having some agency of one's own. Rather, he's "owned" lock stock and barrel by Russia in general and by Putin in particular. There's no other way to explain his actions - the dismantling of US institutions and alliances - to date.
