It's all in the name.

History⌛️, democracy🗳️, and iced tea🍹
“I have deep, deep concerns about a state that is run by direct democracy,” Cox said, continuing, “We have representative democracy for a reason.”

So Governor Cox corruptly admits he'd rather politicians draw their own districts to prevent any kind of voter backlash

Truth is that paying attention in US history classes shows that the American identity changes much quicker in reality versus what people say in mythology about themselves. Modern Texas population is closer to any other urban centers on the West Coast than like Wyoming or something.

This is an issue with some state identities as well. I went to New England for college and some people had assumptions that because I was from Texas that I was either more rural, more conservative, or more insular about my state versus others.

Jackson was a democratic populist by pushing for the common man to participate in politics (usual disqualifiers), Trump an ethno/national populist by drawing on a narrow slice of what constitutes being American, and people like Mamdani/Bernie/AOC are economic populists favoring workers over capital
November 22, 2025 at 2:28 PM
I think that's true because reporters throw "populist" around to anyone who can seemingly draw a crowd versus explaining why that crowd is there in the first place.

The current gerrymandering battles are making proportional representation in the House the only viable solution

I remember there was a proposal in a book to split California into something like five +20 Democratic states by cutting them horizontally so each had access to the Pacific and was anchored by a metro area there

Vox cards were a good idea!

There was an article about this back in 2017 how he acted more like a blowhard local politician than a national one.

Trump Is Running the White House Like He’s America’s Mayor
The 45th president is trying to run the White House like it’s city hall.

This could easily resolved by applying that standard to Leavitt directly by asking if it would be acceptable for reporters in that briefing room to talk to her "honestly" like that as well, and then watch her fumble

"included cutting the size of Ukraine's armed forces"

Geez, at least try to not make it more obvious this came from Putin straight into Trump's mouth

He literally lost reelection in large part to how badly he messed up covid. What an idiot.

I followed for the energy podcast, but was pleasantry surprised by the non energy takes as well

The fact Trump pardoned all of his supporters who rioted on J6 just further enforced the point that he caused it

An undocumented immigrant "raking the forest" amidst a forest fire as the rotting pumpkin says we need to do and they deport him anyway putting at risk American lives and properties.

I don't know, Aaron, I'm starting to think this regime ain't on the level about all of this 🤔

You're not a newbie reporter! We all know this vote was going to fail regardless! The addition of this never mentioned change is just an excuse for the GOP to dismiss blame on themselves!

"We wanted to renew the subsidies but Demonrats want abortions for foreigners!" or whatever dumb GOP lie.
November 12, 2025 at 4:59 AM
A lot of things the MAGA GOP are doing is what the Bush era GOP did as well. They just hid it better with more polish and legal jargon instead of saying it aloud. Cox is much more that kind of "compassionate conservative" guy who will pay lip service to one issue and still cut or repeal the others.
November 12, 2025 at 12:08 AM
By framing this is as simply another partisan practice you've essentially laundered the Utah GOP's illegal actions as something more akin to a political disagreement than an illegal action in defiance of state voters. Assign blame and assign framing correctly.
November 11, 2025 at 11:59 PM
This headline is framed wrongly. The Utah GOP tried to illegally overturn a voter referendum to stop partisan gerrymandering in the state. It went through the state courts and the GOP lost, they drew an illegal map again, and are upset at a judicial remedy that is in compliance with the referendum.

You know what the thing is about all of them? Trump has made all of their potential elections more likely by being so outside the norms of politics that people won't bat an eye anymore. In its own way Trump is much more responsible for Mamdani than say Harris.

You say this isn't in your lane, Dara, but what happens when US companies try to bring in Italian pasta consultants and they have visa issues?

Blah blah blah. I'm sure being a statistics nerd will really convince people when their insurance premiums go up dramatically that Democrats made the best move here for them by giving up totally.

He already said it while also again lying about what this was all for

Trump: "We'll never agree to give any substantial money or any money to prisoners, illegals. And I think the Democrats understand that. And it looks like we're getting close to the shutdown ending."
