Would you say this is a reflection of a lack of separation between the spiritual and temporal? i.e. in many faiths the spiritual laws are effectively no different and than telling someone to wash their hands after going to the bathroom or look before crossing a street?

I definitely am not a "back in my day things were better" kind of guy, but I do think it's much healthier for communities to have more control over the nerd-franchises rather than corporations. I think the return to physical media is clear signs most people like that too.

If I had to guess it's 3 main things
1. Not knowing that unicellular life makes up most of the world's biomass.
2. Knowledge of extinct life being limited to dinosaurs.
3. Not understanding the enormous chemical inefficiency of using heterotrophic stored energy compared to autotrophs.
