It also didn’t help that we have been forced into accepting the binding, yet at the time non-binding, referendum to leave the EU which has driven up overall healthcare component costs & restricted nursing staffing which we were reliant upon for many, many years.

To their credit, Labour has made strides to slice that (see last years announcement on the various NHS England job cuts). However, this could have all been avoided if the Tories & Lib Dem’s didn’t impose a false austerity on the country, & then introduce the HSCA2012.

Over the past 15 years, whilst the NHS has seen a decrease in nursing & clinical staffing, there has been an increase in top level management overall due to the Health & Social Care Act 2012 making CCGs and Intergrated Care Boards which replaced the larger, yet wildly more efficient PCTs.

Many specialties have consultants who run one or two NHS clinics per month, but if you want to pay £250 they’ll see you 5 miles down the road at the BUPA hospital & refer you onto their NHS waitlist. How is that right?

Constant attacks against the NHS from the right-wing biased media, paint the whole situation as everyone working in the NHS are lazy which couldn’t be further from the truth. The biggest issue is that we let consultants dictate the terms of their employment & do more private work than NHS work.
