Boeser's camp is said to want at least 6 years. With Nelson, I'm concerned with the term of contract of a player who will be 34 next season.

5.2 million is 5.9% of the current cap. The cap is on its way to 113.5 mil. in 2027-28. Back of the envelope map suggests that 5.9% of 113.5 million is about 6.7 million, which almost matches his current 6.65 million figure. Boeser had a career year last year, but is that realistically replicable

I feel better about making so-called "hockey trades" to acquire younger players (under 30) on more team-friendly contracts. I fear the UFA market will be costly after seeing Boeser turned down an offer of 8 million for 5 years, which seems high. The Athletic's stats people have him at 5.2 mil.

Should Wild fans be concerned that the owner's promise of Christmas in July will lead to bad contracts that will eventually have to be bought out or traded with salary retention? For example, Brock Nelson and Brock Boeser are likely to receive more money and a longer term than is wise.
