Tester, Woodworker
I built me a scraper plane. Based on plans from an Aussie woodworker. The plane is made from pieces of hornbeam, ash tree and apple tree. The blade is from an old Anant jointer plane.

The good cause is to support the local LBV group that takes care of the big at Fußbergmoos and the small group of Heck cattle.

I feel so called out in @angryweasel.bsky.social last blog angryweasel.substack.com/p/thats-when
The quote from Greg McKeown sums up my professional life for the last 20 years.
Especially in my current job there’s so many basics to fix next to my actual job, that my prioritization always goes AWOL.

I took a break of trash collecting over summer after the trails were more or less cleaned.
Now the leaves start falling and before they cover all the waste, I decided to go picking again. It was successful and less bad than expected.

It feels like the world is trying to make a point here and end things. So much water and this light and sound show.

Another 28km in the book for the bamboo bike. Today we tried two rises, as I’m still not sure if the 1x11 lowest gear is low enough for me. So far, was good. Next time I will go South and try a nasty rise I have avoided for a while.
Shorter stem was good, need to think about it.

The first 20k with the bamboo bike are in the book.

The thumbnail choice doesn’t work well with the Bluesky way to present YouTube videos. It’s a bit unfortunate.

And since I finally got my workshop back after 3 months of epoxy, lacquer and bike assembly, I had to make something on the lathe today.
So I turned a small threaded box for my daughter’s AirUp pods. That they don’t loose too much smell when not in use.

3 months ago I had a long weekend workshop to build my own custom bamboo bike frame. I spent too much time with refining the black epoxy parts, lacquering and assembling the gravel bike. Nearly ready. Two more things to tweak, and then it’s ready to go on its first small tour.

Made a 33km round this morning. It was 10 degrees, hence full spring/autumn set of clothes.

It was nice to properly see the Alps again after months.

And riding around in cold weather keeps the water bottle fresh.

Had some nice views on my afternoon bike tour today. Took a few new routes midway, one planned, one unplanned. Had to deal with the tracking app not tracking ~12km.
In the end it was ~58km in 2:15h. Thanks to the humidity not my fastest tour, but it was good to be under blue skies.

The storm has left some trees across my hiking trail on “my way to work“. I might have helped to clean up some.

Today’s rodent resettlement was disturbed by a lot of fallen trees in last night’s heavy storm.
Interestingly all trees I examined closer had very weak and/or insect infested cores. So it was anyway only a matter of time. And that means no wood for salvaging for woodturning or box making.

Tour de Grump today at 30+ degrees C. 40km in 90 minutes before the heat got unbearable.
