Photographs of birds, mostly from around Nyoongar country (Perth, Western Australia) but also other creatures and places as I find them. All images are my own, mostly taken with a Canon R5 (various lenses). I will block most AI content.
Birds are so romantic. Here a male Rainbow Bee-eater has caught a dragonfly and expended considerable effort to soften it (bashing it on the tree). He then gifts it to his lady love. #birds #birdphotography

One more Rainbow Bee-eater - love the mid-air twist! #birds #birdphotography

My favourite flight shot from today - finally learnt how to use pre-capture on my Canon r7. #birds #birdphotography

I did threaten to post many pictures of Rainbow Bee-eaters this Spring. Here's just one that I took today. #birds #birdphotography

An Australian Gannet with its catch. Must have missed it on the initial plummet only to chase it up to the surface and catch it there. Once caught they still need to get them into the right position to swallow - here risking losing the fish altogether #birds #birdphotogrpahy

Unlike my previous photo of a goshawk, this baby frogmouth is clearly up to no good, and doesn't really care if everyone knows it. (yes - he DID bite that tail feather and no the sibling didn't give a sufficiently aggrieved response. #birds #birdphotography

First rainbow bee-eater of the season for me. Only managed one presentable flight shot - so now I will have to go back again and again and again......😁 #birds #birdphotography

A totally innocent Brown Goshawk, who absolutely 100% has nothing to do with the disappearance of all those delicious little birds. #birds #birdphotography (apologies for the anthropomorphism)

Sometimes the bird comes to you and sits in a lovely patch of light and poses 😍. White Plumed Honeyeater in the Kennedy Ranges (West. Australia). #birds #birdphotography

And an upright view of the Spinifex Pigeon - you can see how well they blend in against the iron ore rich dirt and rocks of the West Australian desert regions #birds #birdphotography

A male Spinifex Pigeon displaying (and cooing) to his lady love. Normally the most I see of these guys is their little crest behind a rock, or worse their back end as they run away. #birds #birdphotography

One more bright spot in a field of flowers. #birds #birdphotography

You have to twist your brain a little to understand this one 😆. An Australasian Gannet twists as it starts its dive to plummet into the water after a fish. #birds #birdphotography

Lifer no 2 for this trip. Rufous Fieldwren. Came and sang to us at our campsite at Quobba station. The background is the ocean #birds #birdphotography

A new lifer! Black Tailed Tree Creeper at the back of the Kennedy Ranges. #birds #birdphotography

Always something interesting happening in Spring. The Pink Eared Ducks were being particularly aggressive - as this Hard Head found out. Reason - the cutest little crop of duckling hidden away behind the action. #birds #birdphotography

It is well and truly duckling season already. I love the sunshine twinkling on these little duckling bums as Mum leads them deeper into the safety of the swamp... #birds #birdphotography

Everyone is jostling for nesting positions at the moment. This Black Shouldered Kite picked the wrong branch to take a break on and was very firmly escorted from the premises by the resident galah #birds #birdphotography

Crested Grebes are the supermodels of my local birding scene. Stunningly beautiful, gorgeously aloof, and with an unfailing knack of casually pausing in just that bit of perfect lighting. #birds #birdphotography

In Djilba (sort of Spring to the Nyoongar people) the Crested Grebes return to the lake. And they dance. And they give each other gifts (pond weed). And eventually they will have little babies that ride on their backs and eat feathers. #birds #birdphotography

The Crested Grebes are back and they're already starting their "dancing". On a good day they exchange gifts of pond weed 🥰 #birds #birdphotography

It's not QUITE Spring here yet - but it's certainly coming. And there is definitely some avian love in the air. Here a male Grey Teal is showing off his moves to his lady love. #birds #birdphotography
