Mark Sewards MP breathlessly describes the “A.I.” version of himself that will be available to constituents “24/7”. Evidently fully on board with his leader’s blithe, heedless shilling for big tech overlords, he claims “the AI revolution is happening and we must embrace it to see how it can be useful, in all sectors.” The visual is of a white male in that overly rich, cod-Pixar style that is the default setting for such pointless digital filler. Mark Sewards MP clarifies that his “A.I.” counterpart is in fact the only thing it possibly can be i.e. a glorified chat-bot, reassuring the reader that it “can’t ever replace any of the other work I do.”

This framing is drivel bordering on nonsense. Employers and their funders don’t “pay” us to do anything other than our work duties. Whether there’s a conflict between those obligations and what we do in life off the clock is a wholly different and highly subjective matter.

Jon Arbuckle (Garfield) – well meaning but irretrievably dorky cartoonist, whose care-giving responsibilities spell his doom. The Mayor of Halloween Town (The Nightmare Before Christmas) – effusive functionary one minute, anxiety riddled wreck the next. Duck (Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared) – a supercilious prick with an obvious inferiority complex, making the best of it while trapped in hell.

This statement, published yesterday in the Latrobe Bulletin is wrongheaded at best, craven & mercenary at worst. Have they any human employees or is it all AI; how else does “offensive” material “slip through” then go unremarked for 48hrs? Certainly no-one there comprehends the Streisand Effect. 1/2

The community this tedious gasbag claims to represent best are palpably upset and he can’t help but gainsay. But what else is new? No-one is saying Telnaes had her fundamental rights injured, but the whole incident is most definitely indicative of a wider malaise & chilling of free expression.
Via an X post, shop owner and pub bore Dr Timothy Benson dispenses his wisdom over the resignation of cartoonist Ann Telnaes from The Washington Post, saying that “no-one has a right to be published” (unquestionably true) and that “no cartoonist has ever succeeded in having a cartoon published that ridicules their proprietor” (impossible to prove). Benson describes the reaction as “hysteria”; like all centrists, he’s a pill.

All the love sloshing around for The Muppets Christmas Carol is fair enough, but the film’s associated imagery is marred by the presence of the plump, “beaked” looking Kermit that prevailed in a lot of late-era Henson material. Give me the half-empty, scrunched up frog every time.

Since this is a publicity photo and not a still image from the film itself, the figure is not strictly speaking a puppet (or Muppet), but rather an articulated model that can be posed accordingly. Since there is no hand within, the frog has an over-stuffed appearance not normally seen when performed by a puppeteer.
