Political economist, writing a book on corporate power. Work at Uni of York. Chaotic good.

Half-arsed baker, chronically injured climber, perspiring writer.
This is such a snivelly shitweasel thing to say, as if people who oppose more and more testing aren't actually on the side of good education.

This is maybe a reflection on the contemporary moment....or, it's an assigned reading for a class this week

Arrived today, this is, deliciously ironically, my most fancy book.

Also, to layer on the irony, it's older than I am and looks like it's never been read.

Almost asked a question, then went into the paper. I found this useful for seeing what went into each category.

It's difficult to express quite how amazingly simple-minded their vision of the world is.

It's like they imagine military procurement as the government going into Tanks R Us - "One tank, please. Hold the ketchup."

I've followed politics for 24 years. Can't say I've ever been more worried, and that's even with me being a pretty cool cat.

Is it evil of me to hope that the answer is "No, but we've tried extensively"?

You have to love the reporting - "Rich parents can't instantly transfer their children from private schools to oversubscribed high-performing state schools" isn't actually news, that's life.

I liked the bit below. Strange thing to say in the context of trying to ensure as much money as possible is passed onto your offspring.

Also love that he describes himself, a working man, as paying the tax rather than his estate, as a dead man, eventually paying the tax.

Putting a bird feeder on my office window was legit my best/worst decision of the year.

For fuck's sake. I would never have thought society would regress to doubting the discoveries of Pasteur. First vaccines, now this shit.

Took this picture today.

I blame ExxonMobil.

Same! It was ultimately a quite easy step, unlike Facebook where I have old friends and family links that I don't have elsewhere.

The birds are developing tactics. Here we see a right chimney forward, with left-right aerial wingers.

My biggest bet ever. Not because I'm that confident in the result, but with those odds it's definitely worth a punt.
