Matisse’s Head, White and Rose (1914) has been described as a “studio painting” — experimental, perhaps unsuccessful, or sits awkwardly alongside an artist’s signature works. I’ve been working on a couple of such paintings myself: oddities that probably belong only in the studio. #studionotes

It’s early days, but I’m making slow progress on a couple of new works. One is made up of stripes and a single diamond form; the other, an arrangement of diamonds and triangles. At this stage, I feel I’m still discovering their true natures. #geometricabstraction #comtemporaryabstractpainting
