Tron: Ares came to Disney+ yesterday, after a less than mediocre box office run, and I thought I'd give it a watch, and see what everyone was missing out on! I remember seeing Tron: Legacy, and thinking it was somewhat better than the reviews dictated, but it's been some time since then. A nearly literal arms race has broken out between tech industries ENCOM, and Dillinger Systems trying to bring digital constructs to the real world for military use.

Long time no see! As you're probably aware, I've been on an educational hiatus for the past few months pursuing a bachelors degree in communication! As of right now I'm back, if briefly, to give you an update on what's been going on at the house on the hill while attending studies, and stubborn three year olds. For starters, a very successful semester!

Train Dreams came to Netflix a few months ago, and I missed it due to a few finals, and other assignments, but I just saw it yesterday afternoon! This film is definitely one to put on your radar for the Oscars here in a few months, especially after it's earned itself a few Golden Globe nominations for this weekend. A logger/ railroad worker navigates the American landscape as it evolves with the times, and contemplates his existence in the world.

Hey folks! I'd like to spend the beginning of this post expressing my gratitude! I'm happy so many of you enjoy my writings, and our mini-adventures in the house on the mountain! It's been just under a year, and Bob has grown so much since this all started. Although, as you may have expected, this post comes with just a little bit of bad news.

James Gunn delivers! Superman just came to Prime Video, and I had the pleasure of checking out this cure to the super powered franchise of DC! I can't say I had low expectations for this, but DC's track record has been less than convincing as of late, however, putting Gunn in the directors seat could fix most broken franchises! Thirty years after he came to earth, Superman bites off more than he can chew by interfering in global politics.

One week into potty training and it's going wellish! Bob has gone to the bathroom in his little toilet two and a half times! Only running into a few problems. He's been saying he needs to potty, then immediately after his butt touches the seat, he says he's all done. Then when he actually needs to potty, I'll put him on the toilet, and leave the room, and when I come back he's gotten up, and peed by the toilet.

Last weekend, the long planned sequel, 28 Years Later, arrived on Prime Video, and I took it upon myself to purchase it, and see what Alex Garland and Danny Boyle had in store for us! To prepare, I re-watched both 28 Days Later, and 28 Weeks Later throughout the day. Leading up to a viewing I held for my self on my laptop at 7:30 in the evening (my son was occupied with the TV, and I didn't think he'd be able to grasp the difference between zombies, and the rage zombies depicted in the film).

My wife is a huge Jurassic Park fan! So, seeing as the latest addition to the franchise released on Prime last week, we had to make a purchase! I had very little hopes Turing this movie on, as the last one left me pretty empty towards the whole franchise, but I've gotta say, I was very surprised with this one!

I feel like I apologize alot here, so allow me to skip the "apology paragraph here", and get right into our week/weekend as it progresses. Earlier this week, Bob's great grandmother had a birthday, and originally, we were going to head back up the mountain for a second weekend in a row for another party. However, due to health complications, the party was canceled.

Back at it in the horror genre with this one! Final Destination: Bloodlines just dropped on HBO MAX last weekend and, being the grizzly franchise fans we are, we just had to check it out. Nothing like spending Friday night watching young adults being killed in absolutely horrific, and ingenious fashion to ring in the weekend, and this film definitely delivered in that aspect!

It's been a minute since we've done horror on here, and my wife and sister-in-law were craving scary. I I went onto Prime, and purchased this movie that came out earlier this summer. While we didn't get exactly the horror niche we were expecting, this movie still pleasantly surprised. After the death of their father, two children are sent to live with a foster parent and her other foster child.

Three years ago about two days ago, my wife and I piled into a car with her sister, and grandparents on our way to the hospital. We got to my wife's room, and she disappeared into the restroom provided to change into a hospital gown. Nervous, she resigned to the bed, and awaited further instructions from the nurse regarding her induction.

I've FINALLY gotten to Wes Anderson's latest film, The Phoenician Scheme! The latest project from Wes Anderson has made it to streaming after a run in theaters, and its original premier at the Cannes Film Festival. Being myself, I wasted no time purchasing this one for my streaming collection, and I've gotta say, I did not regret it! In the 1950's, Zsa-Zsa Corda (Benicio Del Toro) is routinely assassinated, unsuccessfully, and appoints his only daughter Liesl (Mia Threapleton) as his heir as he attempts his most ambitious project yet.

How could I do a Criterion series, and not bring up Wes Anderson!? Personally, my favorite filmmaker, and an absolutely unique one at that. His doll-house style of cinematography, and meticulous mies en scene has completely defined his style of film, and provides an otherworldly experience to all of his films. Wes Anderson has directed twelve feature motion pictures in his career so far, and most of them are available in the Criterion Collection as well as a box set of all of them excluding Asteroid City and The Phoenician Scheme that is currently available for pre-order, and comes available in late September.

Another week, another smoker project! Around Wednesday last week, I had put some sliced pork butt into an orange juice, lime juice, jalapeno, garlic, and onion marinade to smoke later in the week in an attempt at some tacos al pastor. On the same day, we had a friend of my in-laws take a look at our HVAC, and now our house is chilled and comfy!

I saw another one this week that I was not prepared for at all. This time, in the form of Ingmar Bergman's Persona. This Swedish classic has been recommended by many cinephiles, and I found a moment to watch what I thought was going to be an easy hour and a half movie that would leave me satisfied, and one film larger in my film library.

Sorry, I'm a little late this time! Yesterday's birthday festivities ran a bit later than expected. However, before we get into Saturday, it only makes sense to take you guys through the week chronologically. LAST Saturday, we did end up going to the drive through zoo in Eureka Springs that allowed us to feed animals as we drove through. Although Bob was not as impressed.

Switching it up from romantic comedy to bleak psychological horror, we go now to one of Willem Dafoe's recommendations, Onibaba. I figured it was time I went into one of these blind, and this one was not at all what I was expecting! In medieval Japan, two women make a living by killing lost samurai and selling their valuables. However, things become more complicated after their neighbor comes home from the war.

To kick off our Criterion series is one I saw for the first time ever last week, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg! Naturally, my TikTok feed is chalk full of everyone's purchases from the sale, and this is one that has shown up a lot. So, I took it upon myself to stroll over to HBO MAX to check this one out!

It's been a week, and I think we've finally regulated back to normal life, Bob especially. Who, at the start of the week, had a really gnarly rash all over his legs. His Gigi, our family physician, insists it was bug bites from running around outside all weekend, but my wife and I suspect it was stress related. Also, those looking forward to an update on the pork butt I smoked, it was sensational!

To start with, I'd like to apologize for my absence over the last two weeks. I've had a lot come up that I won't go too far into detail here. It was essentially a combination of family commitments, some work obligations, and a few hobbies. Plus, there was some home repair added for good measure. After this post, I plan to have us back to the regular schedule of Monday's and Friday's!

Sorry for the late post, we got in just a little later, and were more exhausted than we realized. Here's the recap: Friday morning, Bob and I woke, and began packing for the trip to my parents place, in Clarksville, Arkansas. The night before, I had thawed out a package of chicken thighs, and two pork butt roasts, and started marinating them.

Hey guys! Sorry, it's been a minute. Recently I was brought into a work meeting due to performance issues, and needed to resolve said issues, which are still occurring. However, the light at the end of the tunnel is visible, and I can continue to regale you with the events of the week as I have previously done. Only, not with my regular schedule.

How did one of the best animated films of the year to date release on Netflix almost entirely unprompted?! Last Friday, Netflix released an original animated movie, KPOP Demon Hunters, on their platform, and in classic Netflix fashion, it was fantastic, and very much under advertised! I only found out about it last night via TikTok, and immediately turned it on based on what I saw!

Welcome to Tuesday guys! Hope everyone had a great weekend, and I hope the dads had a great fathers day! We didn't get a chance to go find The Phoenician Scheme, but my wife did surprise me with a grill/smoker combo! Absolutely excited for that to come in tomorrow, I went out on Sunday and got a few things to grill up some lamb kebabs when it does!
