Looking after the only place in the world with two interconnected World Heritage areas - Australia's Wet Tropics Forest and the Great Barrier Reef. Developer of Cassowary Credits. Focused on biodiversity, waterway health, soil health and climate.
Mangroves absorb 4 to 10 times more carbon than other trees - and do it up to 50 times faster. They're also a natural defence against erosion and storm impacts, and they filter water flowing out to the Great Barrier Reef. A lot to love.

While looking for frogs: A discovery in the half-light of early morning... This Christmas orchid (Calanthe triplicata) was admired by field officers on rainforested Mt Lewis in the Wet Tropics.
It's also where we are monitoring the endangered mountain-top nursery frog.

A passion for fruit makes the southern cassowary a super-sized helper in Wet Tropics rainforests. They swallow native fruits whole, the seeds remain intact and while they roam the rainforest their digestive processes help it to grow.

On World Wetlands Day: Take a look at a constructed wetland that's filtering water and improving its quality enroute to the Great Barrier Reef. The wetland was built on farmland in the Wet Tropics region:

Reconnecting forests, expanding wildlife corridors:
We are focusing on private properties in wildlife corridors and strategic rehabilitation areas across the Wet Tropics region, helped by our newest project:

Since Mungalla Cattle Station was handed back to the Nywaigi people, they've been restoring wetlands and turning the property into an ecotourism venture:

Reasons we love mangroves: They reduce the force of waves and help to prevent coastal erosion, they store carbon in their roots and soil, helping to reduce greenhouse gases, and they support biodiversity by being breeding grounds for marine life.

With rain comes frogs... and right to our doorstep 🐸
We loved this surprise at our Cairns office entrance, to start the new work year on the right note.

Zuni bowls: A cost-effective, environmentally friendly solution for gully erosion in the Wet Tropics. Built into gully heads with abrupt drops, they take most of the water's energy away by slowing it down. A fix for small-scale erosion that’s impacting farming & the Reef.

Great to be delivering a new $7.5 million project to improve sugar cane crop yields while also reducing nutrient and pesticide impacts on the Great Barrier Reef, thanks to the Australian Government's Reefwise Farming Program.

New study finds 300 hectares of mangroves around Cairns Airport stores 2000+ metric tons of carbon annually - making ongoing care & monitoring of these and other coastal wetlands important for slowing climate change.

Despite taking up just 0.26% of Australia’s total area, the Wet Tropics bio-region contains half of Australia’s bird species, one third of its mammals, about 3000 plant species and 600+_ different coral species.

95 per cent of food production relies on soil. Healthy topsoil is vital but we are losing it at an alarming rate. We support landholders to switch to sustainable farming systems that build organic matter, increase biodiversity, improve water cycling and capture carbon.

The Wet Tropics world heritage rainforest is large areas of fragmented habitat. Our goal is to reconnect and buffer them to create a large, healthy and intact system that is more resilient... to conserve this critical ecosystem for future generations.

Sharing our tropical paradise with Spectacled Flying-foxes... Heatwaves in 2018–19 led to 23,000+ deaths in the Cairns region. Now we're working to help this endangered species prosper, and to build better relationships between flying-foxes and their human neighbours.
