For placed interpreting I think it's a bummer when the interpreters are in all black, with a black background, and then there's one hot light. I'm not into the black uniform vibe, but if that's the set-up, offer some rim light to separate the interpreter from the background.

Sometimes we adjust the Ix blocking, sometimes we adjust the lighting. Depends on the situation.

When the interpreters are shadowing, we have a convo about it with the designer, then the designer does their thing, we work with the director on blocking. When the lights are up during rehearsals, we find any issues where adjustments need to be made based on the location of the Ix in a scene.

My approach* for the placed style has always been (at least) two lights and put some gels in them. Try to make them a part of the lighting design, not just a light added later.
*Interpreting in shows since 1985. Not a lighting designer, but this is what we talk with lighting designers about.

Is this the natural reaction of a group of refugees? Do we need to get this out of our system before creating a better community culture? If so - I hope that happens soon.

I find this maddening for a few reasons - but what really irks me is that English is used to gatekeep many academics.

Snow! We haven't had any yet.

I wonder when academic journals will start doing this. A college from a STEM field tells me that AI-generated dissertations are acceptable in her discipline. To them, the ability to communicate their findings in words is secondary to the data tables.

Dude from another country telling a marginalized person what to say. Not playing that game.

Okay Toronto.
