Something to note is that the default files are stored in the following path:
/mnt/Homer/ix-applications/releases/nextcloud/volumes/ix_volumes/html/core/skeleton
From there, the default files and folders can be changed or removed so they are not generated when creating new users.

I was then greeted by the Nextcloud login screen and was able to log in with the credentials I configured during the install!

After the deployment finished, I was able to open a new browser tab and type in the IP address followed by the port. It appears that it is also possible to click the “Web Portal” button on the page.

Once this was completed, I clicked the “Install” button at the bottom of the screen. This began a quick installation and deployment process.

During the install process, there are a variety of fields to look through. I kept everything default, including the port at 9001.

I was recently searching for a simple and straightforward solution to try out Nextcloud, an open source file-sharing platform that can be selfhosted. Interestingly, I observed that TrueNAS has an “Apps” section that allows you to install a variety of apps in your TrueNAS instance.

While I find it comical that scammers are scamming people who are attempting to scam websites, this concept was fascinating to me and I thought I would share my findings. Stay honest!

Further examination shows that this script simply changes the Bitcoin address on the G2A checkout page so your cryptocurrency is sent to the scammer/script creator instead of G2A. Upon checking the wallet’s recent transactions on the blockchain, I was relieved to see it has only received $20.

Dropping the obfuscated code into a Javascript deobfuscator revealed that one of the variables contained a Bitcoin address! That seems suspicious for a script that is supposed to change your timezone.

I was intrigued that such an exploit would be unpatched, so I decided to take a look at the script.

While browsing Reddit, I recently came across a post that claimed to be a “method” for obtaining free items on G2A by using a script to change your timezone and using Bitcoin as payment.

This does not change the fact that their site has an estimated visitor count of 35.34 million visitors every month, which means scammers will make attempts to scam its users.
