Arguably the coolest panel of my Saturday at WonderCon, the 11th 11th Annual Women Rocking Hollywood Panel: Surviving and Thriving in a Changing Landscape brought a group of amazing women of showrunners, directors, writers, and advocates to the convention to dig into how they've navigated a challenging business, making interesting shows and films, and their newest projects. ImpactPR always brings some great panels to conventions and their first panel of the day on Saturday was the 5th Annual “It’s Alive!”: Designing Sci-Fi, Horror, and Comic Book Genre Film and TV. Diving into their inspirations and creative processes, the panel highlighted the immense creative potential working with projects that move beyond the normal world. Panelists: Editor Brett W. Bachman, ACE (Companion, Heart Eyes), re-recording mixer Christina “Chuyue” Wen (What We Do in the Shadows Season 6), VFX supervisor/2nd unit director Johnny Han (HBO and DC’s The Penguin), editor/director Jon Dudkowski (Star Trek: Discovery), and composers Leo Birenberg and Zach Robinson (Cobra Kai, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man)

One of the greatest sci-fi TV writers of our time, Ron Moore made a pit stop from his TV domination to head to WonderCon. Moderated by Mary Anne Butler, we took a grand tour through Moore’s career and got some fun advice along the way. Getting His Start Ron’s start to his career is wild, even by early Hollywood standards. He was a big fan of Star Trek and during the filming of Next Generation, he was dating a girl who had previously been a PA on the show.

We're back with a second episode covering the quickly turned-around sequel to 1954’s Godzilla, 1955’s Godzilla Raids Again from director Motoyoshi Oda. Kicking off WonderCon was the Beastly Powers: Exploring Science, Magic, and Mythology in Comics and Pop Culture. Hosted by Lorran Garrison, the panel took a dive into how animals have inspired humans and how animal powers have been woven into our cultural fabric. Joining Lorran on the panel was John Jennings (professor and author/illustrator, Marvel, DC, Megascopeto), Lyn Pacificar (chief ritualist and shaman, Katuuran), Lea Anderson (columnist, Fangoria), Mary Pastrano (writer) and Alex Langley (Spider-Man Psychology: Untangling Webs).

It’s panels like these that make me truly love going to conventions like WonderCon. Hosted by Ron Diamond, the Giants’ First Steps: Glimmer of Greatness panel showcased a select of some digitally restored student films from some of the most impactful animated film directors of all time. The list of filmmakers included, but wasn’t limited to, John Musker and Ron Clements (The Little Mermaid, Hercules, Aladdin, Treasure Planet, Moana), Brenda Chapman (Brave, The Prince of Egypt, Come Away), Kirk Wise (Beauty and the Beast,The Hunchback of Notre Dame), Mike Mitchell (Shrek Forever After, Trolls, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, Kung Fu Panda 4), and more.

WonderCon 2025 is upon us! Seems like it was just yesterday that I attended last year's event but I am always happy to attend and cover this convention. This year's slate is one of the more fascinating collection of panels I've seen from a convention, namely cause there does not seem to be a gigantic movie panel in the group which is great cause there's so much more attention on the smaller panels.
