My observation from working with older people was that these resilient folk probably found it hard to do things differently from what had worked in the past. My mother wouldn’t accept the help we organised for her, as she had managed alone for years. I respected & admired her choice to stay herself

Its tricky But I‘m glad that we have a hero who looks like many of the people I see daily in London. Unsung heroes who are caring for/treating us in hospitals; serving us in restaurants/shops; working across all public services; acting at our theatres; telling us the news etc.
I wish him well

"Perhaps the most striking findings is that the British public vastly overestimates the cost getting to net zero by almost 14,000%, fueling scepticism & a reluctance to pay. On average, they estimate it will need 28% of GDP by 2050, compared to @thecccuk.bsky.social forecast of just 0.2%"

A bunch of people from the forestry industry replying to or quoting my post above along the lines of, 'Don't believe your own senses, plantations of alien trees are actually great.'

My response?

Totally and sheep can be reared there and the farmer can use poorer land for it etc. Given some small farmers are at breaking point, this gives them much needed income too and they may then continue providing the nation with our food

Yes thats the interesting thing. I read this and think they tried to control for it, so on balance its certainly not bad advice to get out for a ‘long’ walk. Being out rather than doing it on a treadmill also seems to confer benefits. Light, nature, people. Its what we were made for
