We are still living through another war, the war of displacement and suffering, especially with the arrival of winter.” Haj Abu Imad, 55 years old, displaced with his family from Jabalia Camp. “At any moment, you find people waking up in the middle of the night, panicked and disoriented. More than once, they leave their homes and are forced to flee west of Gaza. You see the (yellow) concrete blocks advancing toward them, or shelling starts, with shells landing all around them.” - Resident of Shujaiya neighborhood (about 200 meters from the “Yellow Line") While Trump's so-called "peace plan" suggested a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces, Israel had no intention of retreating, instead viewing the border "a forward defensive line and a line of operational activity.” (Eyal Zamir, Israeli military Chief of Staff). According to Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, Israel continues to illegally seize Gaza's territory by shifting the yellow line daily. Palestinians living close to its border report daily attacks and shelling, as well as a continuous movement of the line. "Inside this [Yellow Line]... responsibility for killing shifts to the victim, punished for returning to their own neighborhood" (Euro Med Human Rights Monitor) In December, three-year-old Ahed al-Bayok was reportedly shot and killed by Israeli forces in al-Mawasi near Khan Younis, on the Gaza side of the Yellow Line. Within the same hour, the Israeli military claimed its soldiers had “identified a terrorist who crossed the Yellow Line.” Whether this statement referred to the toddler remains unclear; however, similar language has repeatedly been used by the Israeli military following its shooting of Palestinian children. Israel's genocide and siege of Gaza never ended. The so-called "cease-fire" and Yellow Line merely conceal Israel's atrocities from the view of the global public, acting as a fraudulent promise to the international community and to Palestinians that the genocide is over. Through the ongoing theft of land and denying Palestinians access to their homes and right to rebuild, Israel is carrying forward its systematic effort to erase the Palestinian people.

In reality, alongside its ongoing illegal siege, the Israeli government has intensified its theft of Palestinian land not only in the West Bank but also in Gaza, through the so-called “Yellow Line,” which functions as an expanding zone of de facto annexation. The Yellow Line remains largely unmarked on the ground, and prohibits or restricts Palestinians' access to humanitarian facilities and assets, public infrastructure, agricultural land, and homes - implemented with deadly force. Many Palestinians, including young children, have been shot and killed by the Israeli military simply for approaching these areas. Hundreds of others have been killed and over 1,000 injured by Israeli forces since October 10.
