Obviously heat pumps are really good, but switching over from using a gas boiler + central heating (which is what already exists in most UK households) to full electric is a huge expense that most people can't like, just do. Especially not for, what is for most people, only a minor practical benefit

In my home town (in the UK, which is the perspective this article is written from) the difference between "literally the all time high" and "literally the all time low" is 75F. UK is just way more mild; getting AC installed for the 2 hot weeks per year is hugely inefficient for most people.
