"Tree of Tenere”
The most isolated tree on earth, growing in the Tenere Desert, was knocked down by a truck in 1973.
Later, an artificial tree was erected here as a landmark.
I hope to visit again someday when Niger is at peace.

While doing fieldwork for cultural anthropology in the Sahara Desert, I came down with high malaria fever. At that time, a Tuareg boy nursed me while studying.
