It is more true for the US, but don't forget that 30% of new car purchases in the UK are SUVs, and even family saloons are substantially higher, wider and heavier than they used to be (i.e. borrowing design elements from SUVs).

Broadly agree but the trend for higher/oversized cars (which are less safe for drivers too) and the increased weight of electric vehicles create undeniable risks for pedestrians. Yes to limiting speed and restricting SUV use.

Important to note that the tapering of decline in road deaths, particularly among pedestrians, has been attributed to the increased uptake of SUVs.

regarding your second point, that's true for the occupants of those cars but not those outside it. Modern cars are more deadly for pedestrians than ever.
