It was snowy winter #wargame time again at the weekend. This year's multi-player Colonial game taking a 'Kobayashi Maru' turn.

It was a replay of Elphinstone's 1842 'Retreat from Kabul' disaster, and all the players got to be British officers.
Our instructions? […]

The latest DLC for #victoria3 dropped yesterday. 'Iberian Twilight'.
Probably better referred to as 'Twilight of the Mods' as, as #paradoxinteractive warned, the free update that goes with it has broken every Mod for the game.
Thankfully it doesn't seem to be too hard of a fix to get my Mods […]

Why is it in #dndd style games that the characters with the highest INT and WIS are the ones that inevitably do the most stupid things?

The adventuring continued last night with the first combat for our group.

The 'smart wise' fighter decides to smash a flaming torch into a flask of oil they […]

#dragonrampant version 2 is now out. I don't have the rules yet but a friend does. So, to ease us into the new version, a 'small' 3vs3 game was setup by them. This was once more set in non-canonical #middleearth.

The forces of Mordor didn't have a great time of […]

Updated the 'New Dark Age' mod for #victoria3 in what might be the easiest upgrade process ever.

I only had to change the internal version number to v1.11 from v1.10. The only change by #paradoxinteractive was to some internal settings to allow for the new music DLC 'Songs of the Homeland' […]

Just finished my first proper face to face #ttrpg session in over a decade.

A completely new crew starting off an #oldschoolessentials campaign in the #dnd Known World.

Think I was beginning to get in the groove again towards the end of the session, as the party started to gel a bit.

Someone is Kickstarting a fully illustrated omnibus edition of Clark Ashton Smith's Zothique tales, as well as TTRPG books (for 5e, DCC, and Shadowdark) based on the same stories. It looks like you can mix and match fiction and games.

Went to the local Wargames Club for the first time in ages and ended up playing #starwars; but a bit different from the norm.

Instead of the #starwarsarmada rules, it was played with modified #victoryatsea !

I some how managed to scrape a win, but not sure how […]

Finally published the latest version of my #victoria3 mod.

'New Dark Age' now compatible with v1.10. It includes 'National Awakenings' for the Eldritch cultures, and is a bit better balanced.

Just finished a #session0 over Discord for an upcoming #ose campaign.

The DM did a good job of setting expectations, and it was fun doing 'straight rolls' for character generation after all these years.

First time with these players but they seem a good bunch. The party mix is as varied as you […]

#victoria3 had a major upgrade to 1.10 this week after the release of the new National Awakening DLC.

That means fixing my Mods to work with it. Starting with the 'New Dark Age' #cthulhu mod.

After the initial 'get it working' fix I get fragmented chaos as the […]

Once more got drawn into playing a friends big #wargame; This time using the 'In The Grand Manner' rules.

A #napoleonic action loosely based on the Battle of Montmirail in 1814.

Played the small force of rather weak Prussians, with the job of supporting the […]

With luck it's possible I could finally be back playing #dnd next month, as there seems to be a group coalescing at the local Warhammer club.

To get in the mood for the future monster mashing, I decided to break out the DnD3.5 Miniatures game for the first time […]

It's #modcon time again. A online fan convention for modders of #paradoxinteractive games.

Took part in it last year with a trailer for my Eldritch Horror Mod for #victoria3 . Decided not to do anything for this one, as it ate up a lot of my time just making the 3 minute […]

Today, at 12:00 UTC, the world ended.

'Not with a bang, but with a whimper.'

The Urban Dead server was turned off;

But before then Parties were had, and Eulogies spoken - in a number of languages, including various forms of Zombie-ish.

My last ever Zombie strike in #urbandead with the Gore Corps crew of the RRF. Zombies were always more organised in game than the survivors.

It's now heading towards only 12 hours left till the Shutdown.

Here's a PC Gamer article about the early days of the game. I didn't join till about 18 […]

Two Decades in Malton: A Farewell to Urban Dead
There are some games you play, and then there are the ones that become part of your life—woven into your routine, your friendships, your milestones. UrbanDead was never just a game; it was a city, a story, a second home. And now, after nearly two decades, Malton is sinking for the last time. For almost twenty years, it was always there. Through moves across the country, through the birth of kids, through growing families and changing jobs—no matter what was happening in the world, Malton stood. I logged in, knowing the same ruined streets would be waiting. The same desperate scavenges, the same last stands, the same thrill of a narrow escape. Some of us fought to survive. Some of us fought just to make chaos. But we all built something here—something that’s hard to let go of. And it wasn’t just the game, was it? It was the humans and zombies. The ones who fought beside me, the ones I tried to outrun, the ones I revived when they needed a second chance…you know those Rotters. The ones who became friends, allies, legends in our own corner of a digital city. Over the years, we didn’t just play—we lived in Malton, each of us carving out our own small piece of its history. ### Share this: * Tweet * * Like Loading... ### _Related_

It's the end of an era... Urban Dead, the Zombie Apocalypse Browser game is shutting down.

It was always going to happen someday, but for it to occur just short of its 20th anniversary is a bit cruel.

Looks like Kevan, the owner, is unwilling to take the […]

There's more to wargaming than 40k. Back to it's roots in the military, but it's a bit more involved than the Kriegsspiel of old.

The closest equivalent for civilians would be the multiplayer 'metagames'. Unfortunately there's never one near where I live […]

#urbandead, the slow paced Zombie apocalypse game, has suddenly spurted into life. For the first time in a while (a while being over 10 years) there was a major siege and bust up between the Survivors and Zombies!

With the approach of the 20th anniversary of the game, a number of players from […]

Looks like I might have just volunteered to participate in an organised-by-email Wargames campaign.

Done plenty of campaigns in the past when a member of a club, and even did snail-mail gaming a long time ago; But this will be a first with people spread around the country.

Lack of miniatures […]
