All the arrival boards were haunted for Halloween, for a second just before I got on the train I saw a gold one flit across the screen, didn't catch it in time though 😐

Light is the photographer's medium, and man is it beautiful.
Alternative caption: A tree for your tree. The shadowy canopy of a tree at sunset, whose middle is broken by a ray of sun that illuminates it's trunk like a pale streak of fire. The canopy behind the trunk is somewhat sparse, melting into a pale blue sky like ripples on the surface of a pond.

Btw, Church Ave looks to be almost done now. Seems like they are doing a few finishing touches on the platform roof and finishing the internals on the upper level. It also seems that the project was much bigger than I thought it was, they've built a whole other entrance!

A scene of a subway station in a trench about a story below ground level. It has two parallel platforms, each with one track on each side (a total of four tracks, two in the center separating the two platforms and one on the far side of each). We are looking out to the right over the center two tracks. On the far side of them, and perched atop and across the roof of the two platforms like a massive concrete, metal and glass spaceship, is the new station entrance. It's got massive glass windows along the sides which widen until it reaches the main structure perched between the two roofs. The walls of the structure are completely glass on this side, with an effect like either a viewing deck or the main bridge of a ship. It's odd next to the warm florescent lighting and chipped beige painted columns of the platform below, but somehow it manages to not to clash.

A faint and flipped image of a sunset on the ground glass of a 4x5 large format camera. Most of the image is covered in a dark and thick vignette. The image in the center is of streaks of clouds in variations of grays blues and golds which meander and flow like rivers into the silhouettes of trees at the top of the frame. At the very center of the frame is a bright circle of white light that pierces through the image. (Likely an artifact of the way my phone camera picked up and processed the image as it was not there looking at it myself.)

It's always been a weird experience for me to see views like this. On ground level these buildings seem to tower over you, like you were merely an ant; yet with this birds eye view I am struck by just how *large* people are alongside them.
An elevated view of three multistory campus buildings arranged at about a 45° angle from the viewer, receding from middle left to just right and above the center of the image. The leftmost one is in an older style, with a stone edifice and gargoyles and ornamented walls encircling the roof. The other two are in a modern style, the center one in white paneling (vaguely spaceship-esque) and the rightmost one in blue-green glass. Behind them extends a low skyline punctuated by skyscrapers and ahead of them lies a park, then a treelined street and finally, at the bottom of the photo, a solar covered parking lot. On the street and in the parking lot a few figures are visible, who are neither towered or towering over their surroundings.

A fence and gate made up of a grid of black horizontal metal bars. It is framed by ivy which crawls across the edges of the fences. Forming a window-like opening on the right side and a solid wall of greenery on the left. The path to the gate is cracked and slightly worn, with green moss and grass growing through. A couple trees reach their branches over the path, shading it and the gate.

I've been gathering concepts for some woodblock prints trying to show more modern/inhabited "ruined" places.
Im just learning how to do woodblock but it's been fun asf. Made my first prints the other day which was just a typographic test, but I'm still super proud of it.
An almost 45° angle view of the corner fence of a front garden before a red stucco brownstone. The fence is wrought iron, short and painted black. The paint is peeling, revealing a rusty red underneath. The fence perches atop a low red stuccoed wall and wears a crown of shiny green leaves. Said leaves belong to a creeping ivy-like vine that has colonized the upper ornaments of the fence. The fence, and the street it guards against, extend out to the right of the frame until they vanish into the distance. A top down view of a white sheet of paper, on said paper is printed the word "RUIN" in scratched-up script. Surrounding it is a scratchy black vignette that fades into a thin black rectangular border.

Saw a beautiful monarch butterfly on the street today. They're much bigger than I remember.

A butterfly bush in full sun. It's branches are covered in clusters of dead flowers, which shine a reddish orange in the light. In the very center of the frame is a patch of still pink flowers, and hanging off it's left side is a beautiful Monarch butterfly, easily twice the size of the patch. It's wings are closed in side profile to us, the sun shining on them in a beautiful display. It highlights the white speckles among the back border of it's wings, and lights their orange interiors like a lampshade. A photo a little farther up the bush than before, the branches and leaves cascade out of the left of the image and fall down in a diagonal over to the bottom right. Where we can see a shadowy broad leafed plant in the background. Above it, in the top right, the side of a building is visible, with red bricks on the very right lead to a shaded white windowsill over the top center, partially cut off by the top of the bush. Also in the top center, is the same butterfly as before. This time clinging, with it's back towards us, to one of the topmost clusters of pink flowers, which it almost entirely obscures behind its massive wings (Seriously, I thought monarch butterflies were like half this size wth.) It's lower wings are tilted slightly upwards, catching the sun and shining a solid orange. It's upper wings are tilted down, showing a darker, yet more radiant orange dappled with streaks of shadow.

An entirely ordinary extraordinary thing. It's an old parking garage With two massive lifts instead of the usual ramps. There's also a bike shop across the street that I'm pretty sure dates to around the same time. What a funny thing!

The right side, in shadow, is half covered with a colorful mural that stretches and swirls across the forward half of the building, it's edge broken by a series of large plain windows that repeat to the back right corner of the building. To the right of the parking garage is a small two story red brick building, a little less than half the height of it's neighbor. It is additionally painted a deep red color. The half of the building in shadow appears dark and muddy, while on the other half the color shines through, the top of the facade has two small crenellations near each edge with a large blocky outcropping at the center vaguely reminiscent of a saloon.

An abandoned church up in Harlem

We are looking up at the front yard and entryway to an abandoned church. Where a long and ramshackle ramp leads up to a pair columns that straddle the entrance to a small covered porch. The mottled red brickwork of the main structure seems to peer out of the gloom under the porch, while a pair of stout wooden doors stand guard over an arched threshold with a wide cross window at its top. Draped tightly over the front of the porch is a heavy black cloth tarp, which shines slightly in the gray light of the clouded day. Beyond the porch the twisted and rusted railings of the path frame the briefest glimpses of what must have once been a garden, now reduced to only scattered plants and grass on bare soil. Green mss creeps up the steps and side of the porch, and small plants grow out of the cracks in the masonry.

We are at the bank of a lake with several overgrown islands hemming it in like a river. The islands and the shore are overgrown. Massive trees stretch their mostly bare limbs over the water while reeds and verdant bushes line the bank. The water, cast with ripples by a gusting wind, paints a muddy picture of the scene above, where the sky is alight with the twirling and breaking remnants of the morning's rain.

I had the good fortune to pass by this station again today and took a stop to see how things were doing. It looks like it's going well, pretty much all the work is being done on the roof of the platform now. I'll post again if I see anything interesting.
Another shot from roughly the same position, on one platform of the train station looking out across two tracks at a diagonal. There is another platform on the other side of the tracks. There is a roof over the platforms while the tracks are open to the sky. Between the two platform rooves, stretching above and across the tracks, are a series of large white painted I-Beams with a boxy, scaffold-like structure made of plywood sheets, 2x4s, tarps and square steel perched atop them. At the edge of the platform roof there is a fence made from 2x4s and orange netting that extends to the plywood structure. The tracks are lit by daylight, with harsh shadows under the plywood structure and platforms. The tracks extend into a pair of shadowy tunnels at the center left of the shot, with the tail end of a train poking out of the leftmost one. Across the far platform on the right are the faint reflections of a train stopped at the right of the shot.

I find construction sites to be strangely beautiful, especially in cases like this where they are making new additions to an old structure.

An underground train station. Here we are looking out from the left edge of the platform across two sets of train tracks. There is no roof over the tracks, and sunlight is streaming onto the tracks and close platform. On the far side of the station is another platform that is strewn with construction materials and other smaller bits of equipment. The station is in the middle of a major renovation project, with lumber, metal beams and construction equipment on the tracks. There is more material on the far platform. The top of the roof of the far platform is surrounded by a simple fence made from 2"x4"s and orange construction netting, a series of large, white painted beams stretch over the tracks between the platform roofs, the framing for what will soon be a new walkway.

Prospect Park central lake, circa the beginning of this month, in New York City, NY, US.
A view out over a small lake at sunset. Trees line the shore, dark in the fading light, as the sun casts a line of glittering light across the rippling water over the right side of the photo. Thin clouds scatter across the sky, some siloughetted by the setting sun, others shining with golden light. Trails of condensation left by the particulate exhaust of passing aircraft cut through the sky, their golden glow fading into blue as they disperse. The sky fades from bright white on the middle right, around the sun, to a deep blue at the top left. there is more here; a buoy, some ducks and geese, and some branches peeking into frame, all dark and siloughetted in the fading light. Other things I will not mention as they are less imporant to the image I was trying to capture.
