I live in New York. No, not that one. No, not New Jersey. No, not the bit by the waterfall- you know what? Never mind.

Everything I like is retro because I am old now. He/Him.
It finally arrived. Turns out, bullying works.

Braiger ended up being mostly Not For Me but the frequency with which J9 has to settle for revenge instead of justice was very compelling. And yeah the episode where the kids get their revenge ruled.

I went to block JD Vance's new account and lol

40. Round Vernian Vifam (1983)

Twelve children adrift in space on a battered training ship. An interstellar war. Parents, imprisoned by a mysterious enemy. A desperate struggle for life, for family, for understanding and connection. And at the core of it all, hope for a better tomorrow.

39. Spriggan (1998)

I revisited this one remembering it as a fun action romp. It's not nearly as good as I remember though the Istanbul action sequence is great fun. Some things are better left buried... and it is up to ARCAM corp, and their paramilitary wing, the Spriggans, to ensure they do.

This is the best review of Wheel of Time I've seen so far.

38. Harmagedon - Genma Taisen (1983)

I didn't like this one much but I can see the appeal. Slow, fragmented, visually beautiful but somehow boring even when it's at its most action-packed. Might be because a lot of the action is just people with glowing auras looking at each other in silly poses.

I kind of liked just doing the single screenshot for this one, but there's a lot of really beautiful art in this film. The depictions of the survivor community, the science fantasy stuff, the ruins and the megalithic structures... Eva has a really effective and distinct visual language.

37. Neon Genesis Evangelion 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon a Time (2021)

I feel conflicted. It's a messy film. As a capstone to the Rebuilds, I think it's somewhat of a failure.

Is it a good film? Yes. Did I want like an hour less anti-universe? Yes. Did I find the resolution satisfying? Not really.

36. Neon Genesis Evangelion 3.33: You Can (Not) Redo (2012)

I hated this the first time I watched it, shortly after it released. It's actually kind of funny how much I've mellowed on it. Maybe a little too wow, cool robot. I sometimes think of the original version previewed at the end of 2.0.

35. Neon Genesis Evangelion 2.22: You Can (not) Advance (2009)

I think this remains my favorite of the 4 rebuilds. It adapts some of my favorite parts of the show; the things it adds are more interesting to me and Shinji has an excellent story arc through this film. The wheels haven't come off.

34. Amon Saga (1986)

I wanted to like this more than I did. Some fascinating world-building details and an aesthetic reminiscent of classic sword and sorcery tales, but never really gets exciting or engaging. Unfortunately Yoshitaka Amano's character designs don't translate well here.

33. Un Flic (1972)

A policeman whose soul is being killed by his work. A cat-and-mouse game between him and the gangster whose girlfriend he's sleeping with. A riveting series of deliberately crafted suspense sequences and an excellent train heist let down only by the clumsy miniature work.

32. Cosmos Pink Shock (1986)

Why did I watch this?

31. The Weathering Continent (1992)

Based on a series of novels, this is a slow, considered mood piece. Set in a dying world, with characters whose only motivation is survival with a modicum of dignity and who end up tangled in an ancient curse. I ended up liking this way more than I expected.

30. Outlanders (1986)

An even raunchier Urusei Yatsura, basically. This one managed to charm me. The character designs are cute and the animation is not bad. Alien beauty comes to earth, slays many, falls for a photographer who's got more horny energy than sense. Shenanigans ensue.

Still thinking about how good this flight was. #14 man. That shit slapped.

29. Legend of Lemnear (1989)

This one has pretty distinct vibes and you can see why it would have appealed to the same demographic that thought Big Wars or MD Geist were worth your time.

But, look... I don't care how well Urishuhara draws a breast, aesthetics aside this one's not very good.

28. Scoopers (1987)

Why does Yohko have a robot boyfriend? She could catch basically anyone she wanted. A rare non-Lupin Monkey Punch production. It's fun enough, stylish, with some truly goofy 3D CG towards the end.

27. Dead Heat (1987)

Billed as "The first 3D anime", but mostly I just got distracted by two of the leads being voiced by Kazuki Yao and Chieko Honda. Judau and Puru ride again! A fun way to spend 30 minutes. Kaori's character design was created in a lab to appeal to me personally.

26. Take the X Train (1987)

I'm starting to think this Rintaro guy isn't for me.

25. Zenshuu (2025)

What was the first thing that made you go "Squee", and why was it a sexy dragon played by Paku Romi? Will this solve your burnout? Will it let you complete an awaited film about high schoolers in love?

Some jarring tonal shifts but overall a delight.

24. Galaxy Quest (1999)

I watched this movie to death in childhood, avoided it cold turkey for the better part of fifteen years, and then re-watched it when desperate for some comfort food. It is still fantastic.

By Grabthar's hammer, by the suns of Worvan, you shall be entertained.
