Banjo Kazooie, for the N64. Set the seeds for my sense of humor for the rest of my life and made me look at games as more than a product. I learned how to read motivated by the fact that i wanted to know what the characters were saying. Love this game front to back, I consider it perfect. Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced for the GBA. This was my first real RPG experience and my first final fantasy game. While I abhor the isekai genre, that’s rooting in my thinking that it’s never explored an angle like FFTA did. The freedom in the job system and the general art are still things that I reference in my current works. A masterclass in freedom of the player when it comes to a general RPG Ultra Street Fighter IV, for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC originally. Now on everything. SF4 was my first fighting game and I had started playing it IN the arcade before it actually came out. This game taught me discipline and was my gateway into thinking about games from a competitive sense. This game single handedly removed my idea of “cheap tactics” and showed me how to look critically not only at a game, but how a player interacts with it. I still hop into training mode to let off some steam. Followed the love of this game to EVO and made tons of friends through it. Kirby Air Ride for the Nintendo Game Cube. City trail is the shining gem of this game. I can play it for hours and hours and the second I get 100% I reset it. City trail is such a simple game that gives you so much variation per play that is extremely fun. Loved this as a kid and love it as much today.
