Nocturne - hmmm… the first of several stories about a robot dependent colony which goes wrong. It’s not bad - just “there”

Circular Time. Superb. Sarah Sutton’s best performance so far (just get her to narrate prose - she’s got a lovely listenable voice) and 4 lovely character set pieces. The perfect way to hand over from Gary Russell to Nick Briggs. Wonderful

Year of the Pig. Every time I start this one I go in excited and loving the rich dialogue and food references but slowly over time it just begins to drag. 2 hours in and I’m feeling ‘how much longer…?’

No Man’s Land… enjoyed this one more than I remembered at the time. But starting to agree with Nick Briggs as it really could have been 20 minutes shorter and tighter…

Memory Lane is Eddie Robson’s debut and it’s clear he was a special talent. Witty dialogue and a story that zips along. C’rizz arc was building to something at the time which now gets paused for a year. I remember being very annoyed about that at the time… what an odd man I was / am

Another week and on to The Gathering - surprised me how not much happens in this and how bitter Tegan is. But Janet Fielding is great and refreshing to have a companion who basically goes back and has a “normal” life

The Reaping - just brilliant. Joe Lidster just smashes it and Nicola Bryant proves again how great an actress she is.

Red… an opportunity for McCoy to rrroll his r’s and the third story in a row involving people’s brains being altered. But it’s another well made, intriguing story

Nowhere Place is a very “Nick Briggs” script. Characters refer to each other by their surnames and lots of TOUGH acting especially from Martha Cope. It’s not my type of story but it’s really good. A quiet gem that is pretty much forgotten

Something Inside feels like another reworked Divergent Universe story. Nice idea that ends up with a lot of people shouting at each other. Funky music though

Night Thoughts, The Kingmaker and The Settling are top tier. Especially The Kingmaker - it’s Doctor Who meets Black Adder done to perfection. Now on to Something Inside…

Then we get to ‘Pier Pressure’ - every time I start this I think it’s not as bad as I remembered but by the time i get to part 4 I’m like shouting “where is the editor on this?!” “Frightfully dangerous” “frightfully dangerous?” “Yes frightfully dangerous!”

But when we get to Terror Firma - suddenly everything goes up a notch. Bang!!!! With the exception of Scaredy Cat, everything is a banger.

The first half of 2005 Big Finish is a real slog… the releases that were concurrent with Ecclestons run are just “there” . Not bad - just bluh. And Mccoys “performance” in Unregenerate! Dear God.
