The truth is, we don’t need more stylish churches with clever logos and shallow theology. We need barbershop churches. Places where people are known. Where trust is trimmed and shaped over years. Where you can sit down without a word and still be seen.

This is not just a parade. It’s a procession of fools—holy fools—who believe that love is stronger than death, that peace is more powerful than violence, and that a borrowed donkey is somehow the ride of a king.

We are not disciples because of our individual accomplishments but because of the grace of God working through the church. The church is where we are molded into the image of Christ—not through our own efforts or achievements, but through the power of God's transformative grace.

Republicans controlling both houses of congress and attempting to blame democrats for a possible shutdown is laughable at best. The GOP needs to use Trump’s “mandate” and start legislating or come back to reality and leave the cult behind.

The hope we carry into Lent, and into every season of discipleship, is that Jesus’ love is not contingent on our success. It is not dependent on our ability to get it right the first time. Jesus sees us. Jesus loves us. And Jesus calls us deeper.

If our faith leads us to seek power rather than serve, if it makes us comfortable while ignoring the suffering of others, if it justifies hatred rather than love, then it is no longer the faith that Jesus preached. And Jesus has one thing to say to us when that happens, “Woe to you.”

The primary problem with American evangelicalism is not that it is too evangelical, but that it is far too American.

The values and aspirations of the American empire are given religious sanction in the evangelical church. This the very opposite of what it means to be a prophetic people.

The Church is not incidental to Christ’s work; it is His work, His presence extended across time. The Church exists not only to address human needs or shape society but to bear witness to the eternal reality of God’s kingdom breaking into the world.
