That is what happens though.

They often help write the rules that councils pass into law. They are not simply neutral enforcers of process.

One option is to strengthen car occupants' rights with statutory changes.

There's a reason taillights are required in the first case. I think cops abusing that is a reason to fix the abuse, not to get rid of taillight requirements.

@kenwhite.bsky.social but is it finally actually RICO??
December 7, 2025 at 7:30 AM
Yeah usually the questions happen without the whole use of force thing

In this case they usually just run your name and address and see if your story checks out. It's rare to be arrested simply for not having your license on you.

Further, Auckland, NZ and Denver, CO have both seen rents fall because of a glut of new homes.

I'm excited to find out who becomes negatively polarized against Kei cars because of this!

I'm cynical enough to take the win

I think that you should be able to ride a class 1, 2, or 3 ebike without a license. Electric motorcycles are a different thing.
December 2, 2025 at 4:05 PM
It is not true that there is no regulation; there's a 3-class system for actual e-bikes which is in effect in 36 states. Then there are the electric motorcycles that riders treat like bikes; most of these are easy to distinguish from e-bikes but police just don't bother 🤷‍♂️. How about fix that?
December 2, 2025 at 5:50 AM
Maybe it should be illegal to sell electric motorcycles to an unlicensed rider? Maybe we should demand police use their fuckin heads? I don't think we should ban good things because they are confused with bad things by uneducated people.
December 1, 2025 at 11:47 PM
I'm inclined to agree with you because I ride an ebike myself but I am trying to be open-minded.
December 1, 2025 at 11:43 PM
Even class 3 can't go 30 mph. Many of the electric motorcycles obviously don't have functional pedals (foot pegs instead). A lack of enforcement against illegal e-bikes is not a problem with legal ebikes!
December 1, 2025 at 11:40 PM
There are quite a few things in the article which fit in the "also a problem with regular bikes" category; like the downhill crash example they provided.
December 1, 2025 at 11:38 PM
It was class 2, revealed in like the 5th to last paragraph. Also not clear from the article whether the bike's motor made any difference in her injury.
