We've now iterated the process to something I'm pretty happy about. It consists of

🚀 Vision
🧭 Master plan
⚙️ 12-mo goal & strategy to get there
🎯 OKRs
📈 Initiatives
✅ Tasks

I call this the company operating system.

But that was not enough—not even nearly enough! There was a huge gap between the 5+ year vision and the quarterly OKRs. It made it messy every quarter to set OKRs.

Intuitively we started cracking the problem by setting the vision. Once done, we set OKRs with numerical targets with a process to track progress towards the goals and accountability of weekly tasks.

How about this quarter and the next? What about all your teammates, and the other teams?

It's far more important to start building whatever idea you have, and iterate the model as you go.
January 4, 2025 at 7:31 PM
Most good companies today have iterated on the business model and the idea many times. The original idea just was not good enough and needed to be iterated. It's a clear signal that no one can predict what idea will be good and what idea will be bad.

Chances for that someone thinks your idea is perfect, steals is and executes it better than you is almost zero.

So talk about you idea to everyone, all the time. Startups die because no one hears about them, not because wrong people hear about them and then steal the idea.

It's incredibly difficult to convince people to have any trust in that your idea of a startup will fly. I know because I've needed to convince early employees and investors to believe in me and the idea.

The hard part of building a successful business is turning an idea into something concrete, and then getting people to buy.

There are millions of intelligent people toying with ideas, but who never take action.

Someone who takes action, is already ahead of someone with perfect idea but no action.
