My experience with open mindedness has been that it can be dangerous. Sometimes I’ve been temporarily captured by an ideology as I go through the process of understanding and integrating it. That’s been part of my ongoing journey of learning how to think critically.

I like to think a lot about epic stories with great heroes. It occurs to me, however, that the heroes would not exist without a society. That means the society, the normal people are just as important as the heroes

I am becoming increasingly convinced that the only way to overcome confirmation bias is to engage actual people of differing views with the express goal of understanding them. This requires listening, curiosity and a fuck ton of humility-in other words shut the fuck up and drop your ego.
