Tedger on the dead bird
I like bikes, I’m from Iowa, ik woon in Amsterdam.
Lots being done to get people cycling and despite the mountains around the city is flat and seems like a joy to ride in. Indicators of great cycling all present: all ages, families, men, women, bakfiets (though many more long tails) and probably only 50/50 wearing helmets

Some really great urbanism in Grenoble France.

Ask your doctor if a sunny train ride to see your doctor is right for you.

In the Netherlands over parenting means riding your kid around in a bakfiets till they’re twelve and making them wear a helmet.

Streets should be joyful.

Due to hellish travel rerouting I got to spend a little bit of time in Minneapolis though, much better but the skywalk here really sucks the streets of any activity that the weather hadn’t already sapped.

I do love good American city downtown architecture though.

Spent the week in Arizona for work. This photo really captures the local attitudes on place making.

Only other great observation of the weekend was the fantastic walk signals in Bremen

And this my friends, is how to bring home your thanksgiving turkey.

It looks like you were traveling along the orange route here (the photo location I recognize well) thing is that the red route is the preferred and much more comfortable cycling route even without construction. The major cycling route signs also direct people this way (perm. signs not temp. ones)

This scenario is a little odd, this road is one of the only "car priority" routes in this area of the city. Detours are sensitive to this, the cycling and transit priority route in this area is less than 100m away (via Leidseplein). The sign in your photo is an official detour route sign.

Everyone wants to talk about street spaces making Europe more livable than many parts of the U.S. but no one talks about how dog friendly it is.

A year ago @janalena.bsky.social and I biked home from a pretty great shindig. (It was her idea.)

Just your regular reminder from Amsterdam that cites aren’t loud, cars are.
