if you've taken it this far and have already made people suffer for it, you can't just capitulate and gain nothing. because it's now, "YOU have made people suffer for nothing." you've just effectively moved that blame off GOP onto yourself.

except it wouldn't even be "insulating Republicans from political consequences". it's literally moving the bullseye of blame OFF of republicans onto yourself.

the "blame" for the shutdown was always on dems but the narrative was "for the greater good" so if there isn't a "greater good" then . . .
