If you have the slightest interest in puzzles and find fun in discovering a wider world, then pick up Blue Prince. You won’t regret it.

A notebook is an absolute must, and although it’s a single player game, the game shines with a partner so you can alternate each run. One to draft and another to take notes. The highlight of our evenings the last couple of months has been doing another Blue Prince run.

Permanent discoveries are well paced to feel like you are making progress and making each run a little easier. Eventually the initial puzzle of how to draft the house becomes the mechanism you use to discover more secrets. Placing rooms in specific places, getting to rooms before a certain time etc.

But this is only the start, as you discover the mansion, its secrets tell a story of a family, the house, the land and the wider world. And there are many many secrets, every time I thought the game was over there was a niggling feeling of “But we never solved that puzzle, what does that lead to?

It’s a game that forces you to be reactive and in the moment of the run. … the realisation that it was exactly 10 rooms away, and I had exactly 10 steps left. Hoovering on the edge of the antechamber, peering in with one step left was a memorable moment. “If only I didn’t waste that step, or if I went there I could have got an extra step… *doh*!”

Your initial task is to draft rooms from the entrance hall to reach the antechamber and what you hope will lead you to room 46. However you also have a limited number of steps, coins and keys. The first time I gained access to the antechamber I had a sudden rush of excitement, followed by…

There is a drafting mechanic, where upon opening a door, you choose between three room options and that room is on the other side. The mansion is laid out in a 9x5 layout, with a suspicious antechamber on the centre of the 9th rank, and an entrance hall on the centre of the 1st.

Blue Prince is a puzzle game kind of in the same vein as Myst or The Witness. You (Simon) are set to inherit your uncles 45 room mansion, if and only if you can discover the 46th room of the estate. However the house is quite different, you never know what is behind each door.

Sounds good! I look forward to it!

How classic? Are we talking about Mr. Do! here?

I just got a “what?” And I smerked and chuckled to myself

Which pretty much says the quiet part out loud. We all know that it solves the problem but it threatens the status quo, so they have to look for other answers.
