This electrolytic capacitor looks ~concerning~ with the shiny stuff around the leads, maybe leaked electrolyte or maybe just flux

The HC139A seems to be just a 74xxx series logic chip, a multiplexer. I imagine it's being used to select which ROM is active. U7 and U9 might be RAM or ROM then..? Just spitballing here lol.

Aww it's almost entirely blobbed! The Phillips chip in the bottom left is probably an amplifier.. TDA7052. U8 in the top right is HC139A? U5 and U6 at the top are probably LCD display drivers. U1 on the center left strikes me as most likely for the CPU, but..?

9503.. Lol these things are 30 years old

They test at 1.2 volts, this is wild. That's why radio shack went out of business, you only need to buy their batteries once and you're set apparently! 😆

I need a moment lol

Those batteries 👀 those batteries of my childhood! Those are old Radio Shack brand, goodness. Well, the copyright shows 1993 and 1994 so that.. tracks I guess, assuming it never needed batteries after 1994 lol

I hadn't tried to turn it on but there's no corrosion...

Here we fight sadness and ennui with old electronics! I went thrifting today and bought a few things to look at that grabbed my interest.

Behold! A Franklin Dictionary and Thesaurus hand held! It feels like a brick, let's see how old it is

Well the ROM is different lol. Original on left, LR on right. The lack of copyright really adds to the bootleg vibe! Loll 🤣

Insides are pretty Spartan! Or.. Altera, I guess, Spartan is xylinx I think? Room for lots of stuff that hasn't been added, I wonder how much the lack of battery is gonna affect this one. Having to do "Legion of Evil" in one sitting without save states when you know it could have a battery was bleh

I am weak when it comes to games for old consoles! This showed up today from Limited (QC) Run. I don't really know how we wound up with a Snow Bros. repro cart, but let us look at the part LR did and see what they're up to these days!

Nanoblocks usually give you extras but this much left over makes me nervous lol

Night night! 🦇

Ta daaa! .. the arms and legs are kind of being held on by hopes and prayers lol, about to kragle™ this if her hammer falls off again

It's a whole head! Lol

We have a face! Banana for scale — this thing is small, fiddly and feels like it's going to explode if I press too hard lol

There is just something about this graphic that fills me with concern lol

Remember the robot craze in the 80s? Lol. I wanted HERO and TOPO so badly! I feel like putting Maxxxx Steel in with these guys is kind of a stretch though $250 is certainly eye opening lol

Quantum Link Reloaded up and running! I seriously thought about the Composite MPS-801 printer but I don't think I have the energy to source consumables for that lol. Commodore fans were all over the floor.

I love the panicked XO lol. I regret not owning one of those but they are really unreliable in my understanding

Atari computers were really popular in the music industry for a while because the computers came with Midi ports. I think Cubase started on the ST in the 80s! Anyway that's a hell of a midi controller! It's the Hotz Box. Also love to the Roland TR-8 for rhythm!

Random computers! Normally there are a bunch of European computers on display. I don't feel like I saw nearly as many, but this table had the most different manufacturers represented

Someone had their sgi collection out! Silicon graphics workstations were so cool to little me back in the 90s! Striking colors, amazing design language, and wild custom graphics chips designed to preview 3d graphics in real time before they were sent to be ray traced!
