As an AuDHD teen, I was left out at school. #ClubPenguin was my happy place where I could unmask, belong, be myself, and make friends. I would not have the social, outgoing confidence I do today if not for Club Penguin.

I'll always remember July 22 as a life-changing day that led me so deep into a vibrant online community. I didn't know at the time how important that day was. I was just a bored suburban kid trying a new game.

I’ve been learning how to navigate life now knowing I am Autistic. One thing I’ve learned is that my special interests are treasures. Living out my special interests is authentically me and I have much more life satisfaction that way. I dig anything Bluey and New Zealand! And as a kid, Club Penguin!

How are these any different?

Lots of ways. But like with Club Penguin’s shutdown in 2017, lots of people grieved the loss of TikTok. It’s what happens when any platform dies (even in just one region).

I never liked using TikTok. However, many folks found belonging and community.

My friend’s dive shop shed in Aotearoa New Zealand is perhaps the strangest and coolest office I’ve worked in so far.

For my birthday, I went on a camping and hiking trip off the grid at some amazing beaches and bays!

All I can think now, is that I’m halfway to 50 😂

Aotearoa New Zealand hit breaking news worldwide and on the internet with Māori Party member Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke ripping the bill and performing a haka in Parliament to say NO to the bill. I heard her say yesterday that the whole world is watching this country.

Yesterday was an important day for Aotearoa New Zealand as people from all over the country came to Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington) to protest against a bill that would ignore Māori rights. One Māori person I spoke to said it’s not just about rights, but their language, culture, and survival.

It was a beautiful day as Māori, Pākehā (New Zealanders of European descent), and everyone else united to voice for what’s right in the hīkoi (march). From the city streets to Parliament to the waterfront, people proudly voiced their support and emotions in the name of Māori survival.
