#IshiRobinson #sweetnessintheskin. Brilliant book for year 9 upwards, fabulous protagonist with themes of family, identity, social class colonialism and friendship. Also, really complements the A level English language course with relationships to language, code-switching and creole. A great read!

Visceral, timely and so important. Our students (year 9 upwards) need to read this phenomenal book by Manjeet Mann. A real insight to life in Britain today and the desperate plight of so many.

How often are you doing whole class learning checks during your lesson? This can be a great way to chunk learning and manage cognitive load. After each ‘chunk’ get the whiteboards out and test their knowledge!

Why not have students create a winter word bank for their own writing? Use lyrics, art poetry, fiction and non fiction as sources e.g. en.ilmatieteenlaitos.fi/seasons-in-f...; www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/42891/...; www.adventurebooks.com/blogs/blog/t..., www.mentalfloss.com/article/3211...

Free writes are such a good way to kick off creative writing: word roulette- students write 3 words on 3 post its, every 30s the teacher chooses one + students have to work it into their writing; scents in cups- a bit of cinnamon or ginger for the festive season can be a great sensory prompt!

Had really stimulating day at the LLP English conference in Leeds @zarashah.bsky.social and I delivered a session on components, composites and assessment. Is your team consistent on key component knowledge? How do you know students have grasped it? What does this mean for how we use assessments?

A fantastic book to engage KS3 students! A collection of true stories of incredible adventures to inspire our students :)

I’m thinking all about how we teach component knowledge and when is the right time to scale up to composites in KS3 English 🤔How does your department map out components?
