do I understand why the rest of the dems are mad? yes, but do they really want to die on the healthcare hill? do they understand millions of people can’t afford food? how is healthcare more important than being able to afford basic necessities? the math isn’t mathing there.

healthcare ain’t really gonna do much when people are literally starving just bc they can’t afford food. healthcare ain’t gonna feed people. do I think healthcare should be accessible? yes absolutely but not at the cost of others’ livelihoods & their ability to feed their families.

mortgage companies and landlords and whatever other businesses aren’t gonna accept not getting a paycheck as an excuse to not make payments for very long, if at all. pay your employees so they and the 42 mil Americans on SNAP can feed their families, and worry about healthcare later.

yes the GOP did say they would vote on the healthcare subsidies next month and yes I don’t think they’re gonna be held to that, but that’s not the point here imo. the point is that the govt should pay its workers ( who are still working!! ) so they can keep up with bills.

I like sen Durban’s comment ( he’s from IL ): “I can’t accept a strategy which wages political battle at the expense of my neighbor’s paycheck or the food for his children.” if the choice is pay/feed people or inexpensive healthcare, I think the better choice is the former.

but at least I see it this way, and perhaps those 8 sens do too in a way: the choice is btw people not receiving pay/food stamps and making sure healthcare is affordable. it’s a shit situation either way, there’s no good way out of this, no one is going to get everything they want.
