I do not think that Star Wars, or really very many different pieces of media have truly prepared people for the coalition building, community action, etc., or really any other real, required action hard times actually require.

In my experience people tend to mean that a piece of media has inspired them, rather than actually prepared them, for an moment, event, etc. They saw something, felt something, and now the feelings they felt are bubbling up again and inspiring them to take action.

I think that there's some mismatched definitions and misuse of language in these situations.

In a society of "product" over "process," people like this will probably always exist. In my mind it's nearly the same as plagiarism, with the main difference being at least a plagiarist had to face what they were doing and knowingly do it. Slop artists get to think they made something new.
