I’ve been working on several mini paintings to take to an outdoor art festival next weekend. These will be 10x10 inches on wood.

We returned home yesterday from a nice family vacation in French Polynesia. I may be dreaming of this turquoise for some time.

I have a bunch of new paintings to release. Now it’s photographing, varnishing, coming up with titles and descriptions and framing some of them. So while the paintings are done, the work isn’t.

I bet not many artists post photos of the beginning of their paintings! This is in a very early stage, where I’m just figuring out the structure of it.

I like things to be really messy at this stage because it’s all going to be background, and the messiness adds depth and character.

I paint with real paint and I paint digitally on my iPad. My iPad paintings sometimes become limited edition prints for sale, and of course my original paintings are for sale too. Both are great fun to make, but one takes much longer.

Any guesses which one?

Happy ❤️ day to those who celebrate!

We have a bit of snow here in Portland, which means we don't leave our homes unless absolutely necessary. I spent the morning being lazy and making this on my iPad.

What is your favorite surface for painting?

I paint on wood, canvas and yupo regularly, but I think my absolute favorite is this: cradeled wood panels, with a gessoed surface that has some clay in it.

Hello 🦋 World.

I’m an abstract expressionist artist living in Oregon.

Be warned, I’ll probably post lots of art here.
