hmm. can't say i really connected with this one on first watch—it felt like it was only about sixty, seventy percent of the way there, even for a condensed short, and it didn't help that i was on edge...

i was slow to get into the show as well. i felt the pilot was weirdly paced even though i liked the visuals. but after seeing the whole series now, it puts directorial choices in ep 1 (like what i'd thought was a painfully overlong fight scene) in context
