Given that he’s already gotten the board to OK private & public upstream investments and has a proposal before the trustees to divest midstream/downstream investments, I wonder if this might simply be a difference of opinion on prioritizing political capital, which is a limited resource.

My understanding is that changes to investment strategy like the one you’re seeking require board review to assess the impact on pension fund performance. That’s the comptroller’s fiduciary duty as a steward of city workers’ retirement savings.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I haven’t interviewed him about this, but one thought I had is that he’s advancing a midstream/downstream divestment proposal that requires review by the board of trustees.

This is bizarre to me. Is there another viable mayoral candidate who would be a more willing ally to climate advocates than Lander? He has the endorsement of NY HEAT Act sponsor Liz Krueger. I’m genuinely curious what the strategic thinking is behind publicly humiliating and undermining him.

As policies to phase out gas use face legal challenges, this marks another case of a large city incentivizing heat pumps. A year ago, Washington DC adopted a law to stack local incentives on top of Inflation Reduction Act funds to electrify low-income homes. www.spglobal.com/market-intel...
