In the new world of #tariff, besides increasing price businesses can also respond by lowering quality, shrinking size (I.e., #shrinkflation), fewer features, lower durability. So, the world of what you buy will not be the same.

Canada needs to add a poison pill to Trumps demand and insist that it will agree to be the 51st state if and only if Mexico becomes the 52nd state at the same time. If borders between US and Canada is artificial then so is the border between USA and Mexico.

I think Canada should ask for a proposal on this stupid 51st state idea. He doesn’t have the vote in the congress. No state will be willing to give up seats to add a 51st state. Just like Obama care replacement, he doesn’t have a plan nor the political capital.

Trump negotiations 101: first find pretexts (illegal drugs and immigration from Canada etc.), next try to humiliate and degrade (governor of Canada), and then keep in changing the goal post (it’s about banking, softwood, etc. etc.). It’s worse than negotiating with hostage takers.
