Tbh I've never played them but I have seen them played, mainly because I can't do 1st person playing 🤣 but yeah they didn't seem like something you have to play to get. Each game basically explains what's going on what to do etc. However I did play Metroid dread and boy that game, pure anxiety

It's a stand alone game I'm pretty sure, I don't think any of the metroid games follow on from each other directly, or have any need to play the previous game so you should be fine
