For 10 years, photojournalist @tchypsanava.bsky.social photographed the Tūhoe people living in Te Urewera, a New Zealand rainforest.

Documenting this Indigenous community has brought her an intimate understanding of their lives.

Yup, @jamellebouie.net has this exactly right. What these guys are celebrating/pursuing/yearning for is not masculine energy, it's *adolescent* energy. Drinking Red Bull, crushing Call of Duty, refusing to clean your room. It is indescribably pathetic. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/18/o...

Such an honor to be included in the NYT The Year in Pictures. It's a wonderful way to wrap up what has been a challenging year. It was a great idea to include quotes from the photographers about how they created those images.

So exciting to see this project exhibited in Vilnius, Lithuania, the place where my mother was born and spent her early years. The ring my daughter Lola is wearing, who also shares the same name, belonged to my mum and was probably made there sometime in the 1950s. Thanks to @mihalenko.bsky.social
