It’s not hard to see why. Britain (outside London and a few other places) is smaller, nastier, more dysfunctional, and - for the most vulnerable - more dangerous. The worst people imaginable are getting everything they ever wanted. Loads of us would leave if we could.

It’s astonishing that these people seem to think people are going to just forget all this once he’s gone. There’s going to be a period of decades in which we’re all trying to fix what he’s broken, and a lot of angry people who are going to remember who sold out to Trump in the bad times.

My first thought when I saw this is that they could just have easily created one in which Farage is fangirling Mahmood.

Is this real? If it turns out it is, I’m going to print it out and leave it in my hallway.

If any Labour activists come door knocking, I will simply hand it over.

[Everyone] such a shame when fans leave early because trains and busses get full.

[Saudi Arabia] hold my non-alcoholic beer.

Also - and I realise this is a minor point - does nobody proofread these tweets? They’re really bad, but also so consistently jumbled, it almost feels contrived.

Is somebody redrafting the president’s tweets to make them look more rushed than they actually are? I’m fascinated by this

The next election is going to be REF vs not REF. Caerphilly showed us that whoever is the most plausible sounding non-REF party will taken advantage of massive tactical voting. Where there is no plausible non-REF candidate, REF will win. That is the biggest danger for LAB, and for all of us.

By being authentic - by calling out bigotry, doing what he said he’d do, sticking to his principles - he would attract the votes of everyone who can’t bear the thought of REF and CON, which is way more then half the population. And he’d be in a position to communicate why their policies are wrong.

You communicate who you are through what you say and do. At the moment, Starmer is trying to win the votes of people who hate everything about the Labour Party. He’s going to fail because a) they hate the Labour Party, and b) they hate imposters even more.

It’s not a question of ‘doing left-wing things to appease the left’. It’s about doing the things it was elected to do, while at the same time not appearing to want to do whatever the most awful people in history want to do.

The policy and the comms strategy are not different things.

Superb response! 👏👏👏

Moments like this are quite useful in that regard. When people start talking about white or black faces in the way Jenrick and Pochin did, plausible deniability only gets you so far. Most people see that the mask has slipped.

I think this is why it’s important that people call them out for it. Reform always hide behind the fact that the racism is always implied, not (usually) made plain.

It’s important that reform supporters understand that most people outside of their bubble see through their bullshit.

I’ve been saying this to peoples faces for a while and I’ve been surprised at how upset it makes them. A woman was leafleting my road and I asked why she was working for racists. She couldn’t get away quickly enough.

It was good to know that there is still some social stigma attached to racism
